Help Picking a Course to play in Las Vegas

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I will be in Las Vegas in September for a conference and some of my coworkers and I would like to get out and play a round or two. Any suggestions for nice courses to play and if possible on a bit of a budget? So far most of the courses I have looked at online cost around $160+ for one round. How far in advance do I need to make a tee time? I am going the week of Sept. 17-22nd. We plan to play Monday the 18th for sure and hopefully one other day if we have time. Thanks in advance for your help.

Chris

be careful when choosing as most courses out here close for over seed, from now until sept 25th so if they are not closed the greens will be terrible, also once over seed is done the prices, double from what they are right now at our summer rates. example right now Bears Best is $90.00 for out of town players, after over seed it goes to 175-250 on weekends

I played Bear's Best last August. 1st class all the way. You have to take a forecaddy , who provides advice on greens , give you bushnell yardage, it was an awesome experience. The course is FANTASTIC. I also played with somebody who had played the TPC course a few days earlier, he liked it, but said Bear's was much nicer. My 2 cents.

Chris,

If you haven't already done so, go to golfnow.com I always use that site when I go to Vegas, my last trip in April I paid:

$35 for Palm Valley

$35 for Highland Falls

$25 for Black Mountain

$55 for Aliante

All prices include cart and taxes. It's great in that you just book online and walk into the pro shop and give your name, I've used them about 10 times with no problems. Signup is free and you don't have to worry about advance bookings.

The only thing is that you do have to drive to most of the courses (25-35 min.) so make sure you get a rental car (which is pretty cheap compared to taxi). I'll be booking with them when I go in October.

Let me know if I can help out with courses, I've played quite a few of them and can give insight on which are overpriced.

Good luck,

John

John,

This is awesome! Thank you. I will pass it along to the guys and see waht eveyrone wants to do. I don't have a lot of choices on the day I want. Is it possible that the courses are booked up already? Do you have to book your tee times that far in advance? I am searching for Sept. 18th.

golfbug....try ezlinks.com

You can either do a name your own price or tee time specials. I highly recommend naming your own price on a boulder creek tee time, which you can do 12 days in advance. Just keep an eye out when you can bid, and bid about $10, 15, or $20 lower than the tee time special price.

You could also try out the Revere as well.

just so you know beginning in sept, the summer rates are over out here, so those sites will not be the same price. I have played every course in LV, private, resort, Wynn, Shadow creek etc, if your looking for a place that will be in great shape, with minimal people on it, look at Primm which is 45 from the strip or Paiute which is 30 mins from the strip, also another tip is if they ask if your a resident, tell them yes, they rarely check, and you really are not lying, you are a resident of somewhere lol

When I went in April for my wife's conference, I was only going to play 2 rounds, during the first day of the conference she called me and said I could book 4 rounds which I did (as a single). You can book your rounds up to the last minute which I have done several times with no problem.

I just got an e-mail from them yesterday, rounds were from $20 up to $45 which included cart and taxes. You don't have to mess with all the crap of being a resident, you book online and that hassle is eliminated. If you are looking for reasonable golf then this is the site to keep in mind for the Vegas area. Like I said earlier, the biggest issue (which really isn't) is having to rent a car and driving to North Las Vegas for some of the courses or Henderson, the key is to make sure you don't go during rush hour.

Let me know how it goes, have a great time!

John

P.S. The rates don't change that much after summer. I go every October, it's probably $10-$15 difference.

I played Desert Pines, Paiute Wolf, Bali Hai, and Primm Valley in the last couple of years. Would rank Paiute Wolf as the best and Primm Valley Lakes course second for the money of less than $100. If you want convenience on the strip, Bali Hai is reasonable especially when you hit it big at one of the crap tables. Perhaps will try Shadow Creek one day.

Check out www.golfnow.com for some good rates that you can book 1 week in advance.

Have fun!

well as someone that has lived out here for 7 years, I can guarantee you that the rates change and its a huge difference.

example.

TPC canyons right now $75.00 after the Septs overseed $185.00

Rio Secco right now $55.00 after overseed in sept $195-225.00

Bears Best right now $75-90.00 after over seed in sept $180-$300

even the small local courses like Rhode ranch siena etc right now are $40.00 then in sept go to $100.00 plus on weekdays.

you can book at places online, that will get you deals, and or go thru your casino host and thats the best way to do it. also dont try the take a Cab to the course and pull the "we residents" :cheesy: it never works

Jay,

I understand you are a resident, but as I said I have gone there 6 times in the last 3 years. I usually go every April and October. The rates don't change at golfnow. com that much. I haven't paid more than $55 a round in 2 years. I guarantee that when I go in October again, I won't have to pay more than $55. Highland Falls and Palm Valley will go up to $45 from the current $35. Black Mountain will be $35 or $40 from the current $20. I'll probably get a rate of $55 for Siena.

Now with that said, rates at the courses not promoted by golfnow.com will go up in the fall just like any other area in the country. There is a lot of perception that Vegas golf is too expensive, I am showing that you can get reasonable rates any time of the year whether you are a resident or not.

Have a good day!

John

Badlands, Bears Best or Lake Las Vegas - Reflection Bay (play from the tips otherwise - it's very resort-style easy) The Falls is great as well.

Don't worry about the cost, and convince your co-workers to play 100-100-100 Nassau & beat them down. The ones that have won money at the casino will be down for this.

I played on Super Bowl Sunday in a morning shotgun @ Reflection Bay & took 3 old cigar smoking, jerkoffs for a total of $450+ playing skins @ Pars or Better. I didn't know them before, they were discussing their bets and I asked to take part. :cheesy: They weren't bad golfers just careless at times, costing them a lot of their bag-change.

Well, my trip is complete and I ended up playing Stallion Mountain CC. It was a nice course and the staff was very friendly. I really don't have any complaints about the course other than the greens were pretty shaggy and inconsistent in speed. The fairways were very nice and the course offered the ability to go very low or shoot really high. I played pretty well except for two holes and I completely lost it on those two. We paid $99 each which included the cart and as many range balls as we could hit. I must say I am very pleased with my experience there. From what I was told it was nicer than Siena, which a couple of my friends played the day before.

I agree. When I played out there a few years ago, I found the pro shop staff very friendly. The course was in pretty good shape even though they had just aerated the course.

I'm getting ready to plan my October trip there, the rates on golfnow.com haven't changed so I might check out some new courses I haven't played before.
