Lead Tape on Fairway Woods?

X 3 Wood Swingweight is too low!

Does anyone use lead tape to bring the swingweight up on their fairway woods. I see it all the time on irons and driver. My new Callaway X 3 wood swingweight is too low. I cannot feel the head during the swing.

Putting lead tape on your woods is a widely used practice. Nothing wrong with it at all. I've got some on my 4+.

That is a 64g shaft, swingweight of D0. A heavier shaft will help you feel the club also. Many players like a 75g or 85g or even 95 in their FW woods. This also keeps the weight progression in your clubs consistent. Right now there's a good chance that 3W shaft weighs LESS than your driver shaft. If you don't want to swap engines go with tape. About every 6 grams of weight adds one SW. Good Luck

Shaft weight will not necessarily alter swing weight, it depends on the balance point of the shaft.

 

I use lead tape on all of my clubs, it works great.

If you want to increase swingweight: clubhead/hosel

If you want to decrease swingweight: grip/upper half of shaft

I've got it on my 5wood. Reshafted with a 55 and it dropped the swingweight, so on went the tape. If I reshaft I'll bump it up to a 65gm shaft and ditch the tape, but for now it works.

As others have mentioned using a heavier shaft will increase the swing weight. If you decide to go the lead tape route, be careful. Depending on the amount of lead tape that you add you will weaken the flex of the shaft. You could take it down to a senior or ladies flex with a few strips of lead tape.

Seriously?? It felt like my ProLaunch was flexier than I remembered it being but I didn't think a couple grams of lead tape would make that much difference!

I've leaded the sh*t out of my 5-wood head, on the bottom at the heel because it was a bit too stiff for me. By leading the head you change the flex dynamics and can change ball flight as well, this is the theory behind moveable weights.
