Ping Rapture in Houston

Has anyone seen any of the Rapture line in Houston? Golfsmith doesn't have any yet.

I have not seen it yet, I don't think the release date is until September. There is a thread in General Equipment forum about the line. I hit the entire new Ping line yesterday and was unimpressed. Give me a G2 or G5 driver over the Rapture anyday.

Did you happen to hit the new 3-wood? That's what I'm most interested in due to it's larger head size. I agree with you about the G5. I may pick one up when the prices drop.

There may not be a price drop in the G5. The Rapture is a new addition to Ping's driver lineup, not a replacement for the G5. One is composite (Rapture) and the other (G5) is not. Besides, they have different price points. I've heard the Rapture will be $400 or more with a stock shaft, whereas the G5 is $300 with a stock shaft.

Unimpressed would best describe the 3 wood. It's a small driver to me was useless off the fairway. I hate to be so blount but it's the truth, I found the face far to deep to be effective. I think it's a good club for players who can't hit a driver but off the deck no bueno.

Thanks. What you described is kind of what I'm looking for. I've always had better luck trying to work the ball off the tee with a 3-wood even though I hit my driver fairly well. I'll continue to rely on a 4W or hybrid from the fairway.

did you try the redwood putter line? i was in golf warehouse on westheimer and the beltway a couple of days ago and the ping rep was in and had an anser. it was schweet!

The Redwood seemed like a nice putter but I think they are asking to much price wise. I would give one a try but I really don't see it threatening my Slighter or my 2-Bar.

Pings are suppose to be in the Houston shops Sept 1. Looking very forward to seeing the S58!!

Sep 1st is the ship date, unless you Eddy Watts then you get special treatment. They use their large account to get things first, get most or all of a limited release and keep prices extra high. Just a thought when you buy something from them. The rapture driver was sweet, with the aldila vs blue by you shaft as a stock option, the new hybrid was like a cannon too. As far as the putters, the price is right in line with scotty cameron, so they are just returning the favor. Since he borrowed most of the ping putter designs anyway.

As mentioned already, Sept 1st is the launch date. That means items will ship on that date, except for Brand accounts(like Watts,Galaxy,..) which may have product in hand by the 1st. I was very impressed with the S58's($948) and the Driver($429) which did not go easily left :cheesy: . The iwedges are very Eye2 like which is a good thing, and the hybrid was very very good and also did not go left. The 3wood was way too big, but I hit it alright, very low though which at my swingspeed(115 driver) does not bode to well for their target market and the price is steep $299. The 5wood was cool though and at 17* is 4wood like anyways. I was unimpressed with the irons but they featured graphite shafts and the Ping std C9 SW which not a good fit for me. The putters are incredible, same material as Camerons and great black nickel finish and little lower price that Scotty($249). The Craz-E One JAS was a smooth roller but I think way too expensive($299). As for the G5 line, as mentioned pricing will remain the same as the new line is an addition not a replacement.

Reps came by our store with the new toys today even though I was not, (ERGH I hate school.) The Boss man has put up the sign's for the new products and we should have them in stock by the weekend.
