While the good "Putting Doctor" wrote you the right prescription, he's a putting specialist/expert. Here's where I have a problem understanding the title of your thread: Right Eye Dominant----!
If it means that at a specific distance, your left eye gets blurry and the right eye takes over then, I'm right eye dominant. I've also been wearing glasses all of my life, when the time came to start wearing bifocals and progressive lenses (around 40ish), I switched to contact lenses. I was told that I would still have to carry reading glasses since my arms would get shorter and shorter with time to read the fine print. I was suggested to wear one full strength and one half strength contacts to cover the shorter distances.

That was the right thing to do (in my case), the dashboard and left hand mirror in my car are not blurry anymore; at approx 4½-5 ft, both my eyes are clear. Inside and outside of that distance one or the other eye takes over. I can see the flag on a long par 5 as easilly as I can read the fine print on a pack of cigarettes.

I'm 5'7", standing over a putt my left eye becomes dominant, that's what I can't understand about the importance of being: Right Eye Dominant

I've been gaming the same PING Pal2, all of my short golfing life (7 yrs, I'll be 67 this Aug). I've tried tons of different putters at my local Golftown and, it's not worth the money to kick my Pal2 out of the bag.
Eye dominance has nothing to do with clarity of vision. Being right eye dominant means that the focal point of your vision is in line with your right eye. I'm right eye dominant and my prescription is stronger for that eye. To determine which eye is dominant, make the OK sign with your hand. Hold your hand up so that you can see a specific object in the circle with both eyes open. Without moving your hand or head, close one eye. if the object moves, the eye you closed is the dominant one. If it stays put, the eye that is open is the dominant eye.
Now, I'm even more confused! I did exactly what you said and, guess what: When I hold my right hand up, I'm left eye dominant...When I hold my left hand up, I'm right eye dominant. Did you try this with each hand or just the one...I'm right handed so, of course, that's the first one I tried.....???? :WTF: I'm I normal ? I'm I visually impaired ? NOW I'm worried ! Just kidding, if I am impaired, I've lived this far with this handicap....I'll go the rest of the way :cheesy: .

EDIT: i GOT IT BACKWARDS... When I hold my right hand up... I'm RIGHT eye dominant... and so on...!

EDIT AGAIN...: I had it right the first time...! With my RIGHT hand up, the object moves if I close my LEFT eye... and so on...! :sorry:
Hold your hand out at arms length and point your index finger at a target at least 10' away. Use a light switch for instance. Now take dead aim sighting down your finger pointing like a gun. Close your left eye, then switch and close your right eye. Which eye maintained the proper aim at the target? This is your dominant eye.

Now that you've found your dominant eye.... forget about it.:russian_roulette:

There are certain trends re eye dominance but we all see and perceive things differently.

If you have an Edel Putter fitter in your area a fitting with this instructor will open your eyes... pun intended.. to what configuration of putter you see and aim best with. If aim is the foundation, and that's my story and I'm stickin' to it, then finding the putter you aim best is the first step to improving your putting and lowering your handicap.

I am usually right eye dominant, but when I get really drunk it goes away and both eyes are equal.

I am right-handed / left eye dominant. Should I try putting lefty or what ??
No but I would venture to say that you might like the look of a straight down shaft. No offset may be the key for your eye dominance... maybe.

Something with toe hang...8802 or seemore m2, fgp/scotty ssn 2.6

Any right eye dominant putter that can break 28-27 putts a round with a "conventional length" face balanced putter should go pro...dont know how you guys do it lol

If we're talking on just aiming alone the Scotty Cameron 2.6 (rip of the seemore FGP) was the absolute best. As mentioned by the doctor, straight down the shaft could be the key for Right Eye Dominance

Having said that...if I had a laser on my 8802's at address I may not be setup aiming at the hole (may be not ever lmao), but boy oh boy I can drain em better than anything else. Not sure why

That happens to me too!

I have no preference.....but I do tend to cross dominant
If I use my right hand to point at an object I use my left eye to sight the object.
If I use my left hand to point then I use my right eye to sight the object

This is probably why Im so inconsistent with my aiming.

I am strongly right handed and so I tend to be left eyed
but I sometimes I will close my left eye or not grip with my right hand for certain putts that require me to aim with my right eye like certain breaking putts.

Update: I got fit for a White Ice 2 ball w/ line @35". Full shaft offset.

I've never putted better. Finally, I can see my line right when I set down the putter! I've made more birdies since I got this putter than in the previous 6 months.

TC, didnt realize you were the one who started the thread lol. Good to see you found your putter. I also see the 9015 is back in play and HC is looking nice. Do you think the putter will take you to scratch? please drop another update in a few months and let us know how youre doing. I have a belly putter on the way...I always wondered about all this right eye dominant stuff and putting phil mickelson style was the best way for me with the ball really forward

I really felt like the 2ball I owned had the shaft somewhat behind the putter which helps hitting up on it and keeping it forward. Do you care to post a vid of your stroke?

Pick your target line from behind the ball prior to addressing the ball. The only reason you should be looking up before the stroke is to help determine distance. If you choose the line and visualize it standing behind the ball and have a good address you should be able to put the ball on your designated target line. If you feel you are right eye dominant try the head turn. Once you are set turn your head so that your left eye is directly over the ball taking your right eye out of the equation. This is a great trick during the swing to help stay down on the ball. If you are doing it right IMO you shouldnt ever pick a target line once you are over your putt if so maybe you should consider changing up your routine a little.

Cheers

I think there is a good chance I could get near scratch putting like I have been putting lately. It made an instant difference in my game. All of a sudden I could see my line and had great distance control.

I could definitely see how the mickelson stroke with the heel shaft and ball way forward could help you see the line.

I will try to remember to take a video of me putting next time I am at the practice green. I basically use a traditional grip and rock the shoulders to make the stroke. I try to keep my hands out of it.

Right Eye Dominant-
;Stand further away. Not a lot though!
Enough that your eyes are ontop of the inside or 2 inches inside of the ball.
;Further forward in your stance.
I am right dominant and I agree with all of the above.....I figured out on my own .....I place a ball in the hole of a compact disk and can see my reflection on the disk at address. I know from experience that I putt my best when my eyes are over to inside the ball and behind the ball. Also I cannot consistently make putts with offset putters, straight shaft gives me much better alignment, I make WAAAAY more 3-5 footers this way. I use a Cameron bullseye putter with no offset, but pretty much any non offset putter works OK for me, I used a Ping Anser for many years and missed way too many short putts, center shaft=problem solved.

I love this topic as I fit this description completely. I finally had the round that completely pushed my patience for putter over the limit. 12 GIR's and shot 85. I wanted to throw my putter in the woods. I went today and talked with the guy that setup my set and he said that a Newport is not the right stick for me. He didn't really get into the eye dominance at all but he did look at my stroke. I have a very slight release so a face balanced putter would fit me best. I like having offset because I do like a little forward press. I have been trying to keep my hands back because sitting a Cameron Newport on the ground that's how it sets up for me. I am starting the search now for a half to 3 quarter offset face balanced mallet putter. Kombi or Squareback are on the list.

as a dude who already is using an arc style stoke - READ STAN UTLEY's the art of putting book
no word of a lie, i read this book in one night, had ZERO practice w some changes i made (have your putter near you while you read) and went out the next day w 27 putts
anything inside 15 feet now i feel is automatic (it isnt really but i sure have confidence now)

4 major things i took from the book:

1. changed grip (now reverse overlap)
2. moved ball BACK in my stance (putter head in the middle w ball slightly ahead of center)
3. added a slight forward press
4. bent putter flatter, ADDED loft (to help w the increased loft) - now at 68* and 5* of loft

this book is great and i learned a ton from it

only thing tho, i used a face balanced mallet (Betty BB32) which is light at 332g
he really advocates a putter w toe hang, heel shafted heavier putter - but i love my putter to much to change and it works fine

TRUST ME - best $29 i ever spent

I am really struggling with this right now. I have always played face balanced putter and seeing my line is very important to me before I pull the trigger. I played a Yes tracy for years and recently went to a Nike method 004. My results have varied for months with my putting. Some days I can not mke a putt, other days I can't miss. i have recently tinkered with a seemore fgp because the face is so far forward it assits me with seeing the line better. I am also interested in a few Odyssey models (DART and 2 ball). I know confidence is an issue, but it's hard to have confidence with sich varied results. Right now I could hit every green in regulation and shoot 72. I usually don't 3 putt, but am having a terrible time with longer putts.
