Playing Firestone West this weekend

Any Tips?

Playing the west course at Firestone this weekend in Akron. Anyone thats played this course before, do you have any tips or pointers? Any tricky greens that I need to be aware of or blind tee shots? Anything would help. Thanks!

nothing tricky about it. by far the most open and easiest of the three firestone courses. good par three is on the back. plays 210 but down a big hill.

Agreed, play the West Course when you wanna feel good about your game.

Play it when I wanna feel good about it? We had our first round today and I thought it was one of the most difficult tracks I've played in a while. It might be that 90% of the holes were either into the wind or a little into us w/ a slight crosswind, or it was tipped out and we were getting no roll. I feel like this course played at least every bit of 7100-7200 yards today. The greens were rolling smooth and fast and the rough was kind of thick. I shot 73 and I felt like I played pretty good. I did have a 3 putt and a double though. It might be easy compared to the North and South but compared to the courses I've played lately it was a little difficult.

You do start and end at the clubhouse right? How can 90% of the holes play into the wind

The great thing about the three courses at Firestone is that they are all so different from each other. A lot of my member friends say they prefer to play the North Course, which I always enjoy a lot, too.

No you do not start at the clubhouse, 1 and 10 tee are probably at least a 5 minute walk from the clubhouse. And if you actually took the time to read my post, I also noted that holes played with a crosswind that was a little into us.

Like the north course the best too. Nice hole length variety. Scenic. Best finishing holes IMO.

Anywhere in Ohio is playing long right now because its so wet. The golf course is less than 7000 yards from the tips but I'm sure it certainly felt longer than that as of late. Haven't played the West this year but did play the South and the rough was basically a penalty shot if you play it down...just brutal. With that being said the West is a pretty easy golf course. 73 is a good score from all the way back if the rough is long and its windy. I think you'd have a different opinion if it played firm and fast and the rough was at its normal length.
