My California Golf Adventure

Was in Fresno for my wife's 20 year HS reunion this past weekend. Wifey had to get back for work on Monday, me not so much as I was recently laid off. Decided on a whim to head over to the coast for a little golf trip. Booked Half Moon Bay Ocean Course on GolfNow for $75 Sunday. Great course, beautiful links layout, excellent conditions, 86. I booked Pasatiempo in Santa Cruz for Monday on GolfNow for $100. Was a tad disappointed, had heard so many good things but it didn't live up to the hype IMO, 87. Called Pebble Beach after my round Monday and booked a 2:40 for Tuesday, no discounts for Pebble as you all know.

 

Arrived a couple hours early, partly cloudy and 65 or so. Looked like it was about to become a gorgeous day, stay tuned. Went into the Tap Room for calamari and a Bass Ale, walked out to full sunshine. The range at Pebble was closed for maintenance so they shuttled me down to the Spanish Bay range. Got into a nice tempo, was striping the ball and looking forward to a good round. Shuttled back up to the lodge as the clouds rolled back in, I thought it was just marine layer which is common, but alas it was not. The very moment I put my peg into the first tee box it began to sprinkle. Got through the first three holes in one over and was looking forward to a solid round. On the short walk to 4 tee box it began to really rain, and really blow. Before long it was between 15-20 mph and torrential rain blowing sideways. No way to stay dry, could hardly hold onto the club, bummer. It was so bad that after the 7th the father and son playing with us drove off. After the 8th the other guy also walked off, I was left alone, playing between two foursomes in the most challenging conditions I have ever played in. At this point I stopped keeping score it was so bad and I couldn't care less what I shot. After 11 the foursome in front invited me to join them as they could tell I was stuck.. The rest of the round was cold and waterlogged but I couldn't quit like the rest of my group. Not the first Pebble experience I was hoping for, thankfully it will not likely be my last as I will make it a point to be back for a more pleasant round.
