Help with LM data to pick new driver.

Recommended Posts

I decided to pick up another driver to add a few extra yards. Something cheap until Christmas when I'll get properly fitted and get a brand new driver. Im looking at clubs like the Cobra S2 and Adams speedline Fast 10 or something similar. Here are my averages with a 10.5 Nike Sumo with Graffalloy Blue Reg. flex.

Clubhead speed 84.1

Ball Velocity: 125.4

Launch: 15.9

Ball spin: 3556

Carry 209

I know my clubhead speed is low, but i have a bad back. But i do get it up to 90ish on hot days when i can be very loose. I also have a fast tempo and generally hit the ball with a draw. When it comes to shafts I know almost nothing. I've been playing for about 10 years with a 14hdcp. But in 10 years i've only bought 3 drivers and some putters. I have no access to demo clubs outside. Just inside dicks sporting goods. So any help (shaft type, flex, club loft) would be appreciated.

I can add a little information from my recent experiences. The first is, make sure your on-course observations match the launch monitor readings. If your above readings are from one session, maybe hit the LM again or few times to make sure it wasn't the swing you brought 'that day'. My LM readings were the opposite - low trajectory, low spin. But, on the course, my ball flight was mid-high. This is important, because given your numbers (high spin, launch angle), it would seem like a 9* driver may be better. Given your swing speed, I doubt you would want to use a less lofted club, unless you consistently have an upward angle of attack.
The PL Blue is a high launch shaft, but swapping shafts (Aldila Serrano, VS Proto, etc...) will only do so much as far as lowering trajectory and spin. Just be sure that 16* LA and 3550 rpm are what you see on the course before you invest in a lower lofted driver.
Hopefully, someone with greater knowledge of club fitting will add to this.
If you can find a fitter and hit a number of different head/shaft combos that would be best. Morgantown?

BTW - my wife is from St. Albans, and one of my in-laws plays Twisted Gun on occasion. Is that the one built on a reclaimed strip mine?

Yeah the monitor results match on course play. I hit the ball high with a good bit of spin. When i had the stock shaft in the nike it spun soo much it would fly as high as a pw and land about 170 off the tee. With the blue im getting a flatter trajectory. Im fairly accurate with this shaft. Id like something like it but lighter. And its not the Pro launch. Its the original blue from like 6 years ago. My main prob is i want something like between reg and stiff. Im 6'8 and combining my steep anglel of attack and quick tempo, its easy to hit high spinning drives. The driver i like the most from feel wise is the cobra s2 9.5 stiff flex. But im not sure if its right for me.

Morgantown is like 3 hrs away. I live about 10 mins from St Albans. They're are alot of places to get fitted, but theyre all at private clubs. And yup Twisted Gun is the old reclaimed mine job. It's an amazing course. My fave by far. Too bad they let the greens go last year and were closed until this month.
