Lee Westwood Seniors Golf

He was on TalkSport radio in the UK this morning saying he will be playing the US Senior Open (he's exempt via Ryder Cup). Sounded very much like he will play the seniors events he qualifies for that don't clash with the 54 hole events.

 

The Senior Open usually has an exemption category for top 60 career money (DPWT) so he should exempt for Carnoustie but it appears to clash.

Not sure what the position is this year but I believe for the Senior Open at Carnoustie, Westwood may have an issue. I forget the exact reasoning but I think that he was no longer classed as a member in good standing of the Euro Tour due to unpaid fines, he was not eligible to take up his spot. I don’t know if that remains the case this year…I guess Westwood’s Twitter/X page will be the place to find out…loves a moan.

If there's one LIV golfer happy to see AK playing its Lee Westwood, AK is probably the only one stopping Westwood from being dead last in the LIV rankings. I don't see Lee having any chance in any of the Senior majors based on how he's currently playing, he'll be lucky to make the cut.

Peter Finch mentioned on his podcast yesterday he is filming a round with Lee in a couple weeks.  Likely have him on the podcast too, like he just had Padraig on recently.  I'm sure he will discuss that more.

So at best, he's behind Mickelson. Further, Steve Stricker is the 116th ranked player in the world according to datagolf, Cink is #250,  and Paddy's ranked #370. Each ahead of Mickelson at #381.

fyi richard bland is over 50 and has finished higher on the liv tour than westwood

It will be interesting to see how long the likes of Westwood, Poults, Stenson etc end up staying at LIV... obviously we don't know the details of the contracts but surely they won't allow the Majestics all carry on as they are for much longer... an see the LIV roster looking a lot different in 3 years time if it continues.
