Long Island Golf

I am looking for a course to play out on the island. I found

1) TALLGRASS

2) PINE RIDGE

 

What do you guys think about these, Any other suggestions? Let me know, Thank you

I just started a thread about golf on LI. I plan on going to LI National, Montauk Downs, Pine Hills...perhaps Willow Creek. Perhaps make a drive to Bethpage.

You don't say where you live in NY or if you're going to be single or more or looking for something on a weekend or weekday. Also, you don't say if you are on a budget or looking for something inexpensive. I assume that you're coming from the NYC area and don't presently live on LI. Those other courses from the above post are out east and will be something of a drive for you. I'll throw a few names at you that are more west.

Bethpage State Park [Black, Red, Blue, Yellow, Green - order of suggested plays]
Harbour Links [can be expensive though]
Lido [not personally my favorite]
Eisenhower Park [can be expensive for a non-Nassau County resident though]

Hey chas thanks for the answer.. I live in nassau country, And have played all those courses, Looking for something different. Dont mind to drive a hour or two even if the course is worth it. Will play as a twosome not sure if it will be weekday or weekend, And on No budget.. Let me know

Then you MUST play Great Rock, Rock Hill or Willow Creek!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Jemehl,

I'm from western suffolk and was tired of playing the town of huntington courses because they're generally poor. So my buddy and I started playing daily fee and semi-private courses in suffolk this season. All of the following courses were very well maintained, pace of play was fine and the staff members were wonderful:

Great Rock - lots of elevation changes, gorgeous clubhouse
Mill Pond - less than 6,000 yds from the whites
Rock Hill - about 6,500 yds from the whites, back 9 more difficult than front 9
Tall Grass - links style, not a single tree anywhere, IMO the most challenging of these 4

I wouldn't hesitate to return to any of the above. In fact, I'm playing Tall Grass again in two weeks.

Tallgrass is nice but I think it's overrated (it's something like #2 public course on LI and top 5 in NYS, or something like that). Hamlet Willow Creek is a great track. It's very close to Pine Ridge but it's a lot nicer. Montauk Downs is a solid course too but it's way out there. However, on the drive out you can drive through parts of Shinnecock, National, and Maidstone. Harbor Links is a good layout but the staff there sucks and it's overpriced. All the Bethpage courses are decent, with the Red being just as hard as the Black in my opinion. Long Island National is very nice too. Haven't played it this year but I think they put some money into the course over the winter. I would skip Rock Hill. It's just average in my eyes and there are many otehr better options listed above.
