Golf in Hainan, China

I know they've built a ton of courses there, but I'm wondering how accessible these are to outsiders? Planning to be there for a weekend during an upcoming trip to Asia, and wanted to see if there was any chance of me getting out for a round. Curious if it's ridiculously expensive?

Golf in China is pricey, but it isn't out of reach. I regularly pay the equivalent of $100 - $150 for a decent course, and then it can go up from there. You should expect to pay up to double that on the island of Hainan, especially if you are playing the Mission Hills course. Enjoy it!

But you can get on the courses without any connections or memberships? They are "public"?

It will depend on the course. Some will only let you play with a Member, but many of them are public. You can check with the hotel you are staying at to see if they have any arrangements with the local courses.

I played at Mission Hills this past February. It's a resort course so you shouldn't have any trouble booking tees times, especially if you're staying there. And if you do stay there, inquire about packages, which are somewhat reasonable when taking into account the accommodations.

Keep in mind there are two airports that service Hainan Island. Depending on which you one fly into, the choice will determine which courses are more accessible. Mission Hills is much closer to the airport in Haikou. The other airport, which is on the other side of the island will open up other choices, but most likely eliminate Mission Hills as an option.

Flying to Haikou and staying at the Sheraton resort on the beach. WIll have to check with them to see what they have.

Most courses there welcome non member and making reservation is pretty simple.
U may try golf007, or some other golf related travel agency to get a cheaper deal

The golf courses there are not expensive compare to like... Shenzhen or Guangdong area.
Keep in mind that hotel price Can be super expensive in high season , they can rip u off pretty badly , the food are just fine and really pricy

It's really damn hot btw, my buddies and I traveled hainan in May, it was so hot I didn't really travel around much
