7 Iron & Driver

Hello,

I'm a 14 handicap and I am looking for feedback. I've never had any sort of instruction other than a 30 minute lesson where I learned my left arm was breaking down to the point my hands were by my right ear.

I hit the ball fairly consistently with my irons, but my game off the tee is a little sporadic. I consistently hit a 5 yard draw but sometimes I hit awful hooks.

you need to take video while actually hitting a golf ball. yea, you might look like a dork with a tripod at the range....but it's all in the name of trying to improve. better than sitting out there like most hacks smashing buckets while they have no idea what their body's actually doing and what's causing them to hit it all over the course.

it really does affect a lot. it's pretty easy to get on plane and do the things you're meaning to do while making a fast but controlled practice swing. swinging with a ball there brings in all this subconscious muscle memory stuff of the things that are occurring when your body knows you need to make contact with a ball from ______ position in the swing.

I'm no pro but noticed a few things in your swing:

 

 

- Shoulders are hunched at address. Try and straighten up your back.

 

- Swing is pretty flat especially with the driver. Check your takeaway position at parallel to the ground and you'll see the shaft is too far into your body and pointing left when it should be straight at the target. Then as it goes further up you can see it's really flat and the shaft is almost horizontal. The plane should be between a merry-go-round and a ferris wheel, you are too much merry-go-round. Try and get the club working up more from the takeaway and keep checking that early position at parallel to the ground.

 

 

Check out this comparison with the hands at a similar position. Tiger's hands are pointing towards the sky, while yours are pointing almost straight left

 

 

 

 

 

- Check your left hip at the top of the swing. It's swung out towards the target. Imagine a vertical line up from your left hip at address. Try not to let your left hip cross this line on the way down. This hip movement is going to cause the upper body to get left behind on the downswing and you're gonna end up flipping your hands to try and get the club to catch up and when you get this wrong (which you will) you'll get those nasty hooks you mentioned.

 

- Right leg seems to straighten up on the way back. Try and maintain the flex in your knee and turn against a more braced right leg.
