5 handicap, Inconsistent Iron Play

Hi lads, any ideas/thoughts or opinions are much appreciated!!

I wanna try keep this short and sweet!!

Em, how much of an effect can Tempo of the swing dictate shaft choice?? I have a quick transition with lots of increase in wrist angle(like sergio), does this mean i should play stiffer/weaker/heavier/lighter iron shafts!!??? Help??

I am not a monster hitter that pumps 7 irons 200+!! I play MP-67's with s-300's, hit down and really compress the ball, yet hit 7 iron 160 ish. Often catching the ball high on the face!

So really what I'm asking is would a stiffer shaft profile..eg.x-100, help to bring consistency to my iron play even though most people would say that I'm too short a hitter for those shafts!!!

I've tried r-300's just like the general consensus that most people play a shaft thats too stiff!! this was worse then my s-300's!

Hope somebody can shed some light on my problem because If I can just hit some greens my game will take off!!!!!!

It definitely has an effect. On the Mizuno shaft fitting system, with the same swing speed at the bottom, I can produce results from mid S to mid X on the grid just with a tempo change (using Tour Tempo).

Quick tempo and a strong transition is sometimes the root cause of inconsistency of iron shots (ie wide dispersion) if the shaft profile is somewhat flexible. While it has to be said that by no means that 160 yards with a traditional lofted 7-iron isn't exactly "bombing it", it remains about average or just over for an S300 player. As a general rule of thumb, I would happily advise someone to move to an X100 for increased accuracy and to bring dispersion down to an acceptable range. The decision is usually made a lot easier too if the said player has a strong move at the ball like yourself. X100 would therefore be my recommendation - remember, it's not how fast you swing it, but how you swing it fast. Tempo and loading counts for a lot in shaft choices, not just raw swingspeed.

Thanks for the replys guys! It makes sense to me anyway that a stifferr shaft would be more stable in a strong transion, and maybe it would take some spin off the ball and flatten out my traj a bit so I might even gain some distance!

Ever since I moved too a stifer shaft in my driver (905s with accra se*70) I've seen a considerable gain in both distance an accuracy, anybody that has hit my driver can't get it up in the air at all so I think I'm just a high spin player an a more flexible shaft just kills both my accuracy and distance.

Now all I have to do is try and find some cheap x-100!!

We have similar swings. I moved to X100 and could not be happier. I kept the same distance and dispersion control is excellent. Try and hit a MP 68 or similar blade in an x100 at golf shop and see what ya think b4 re-shafting.

Have you thought of ever trying SL x-100's?? one of my mates went from s-300's to the SL version and went from hitting a 6 iron 160 ish to 175-180! with no loss in accuracy!! As far as im concerned if u gain gain distance without losing accuracy ur getting a good deal!!!
