Center Shaft Conversion & Deep Milling

who does it best?

I'm looking to have a fastback 1.5 centershafted and deep milled - but am curious to know who does it best?

I'm interested in quality in the weld (not sloppy)
I want dm to be consistent and not look like it was hand milled
looking to put a gun blue, or similar finish on it. (not able to do this myself... yet.


Can those of you who have done some, or any of these mods - voice your opinion and post photos?


feel free to mention your cost if you want, otherwise I can get a direct quote from whom I choose to hire for this project.

Welding will not be cheap. DM can be done for around $40 from several people. I was going to have a fastback welded into a CS and after seeing I could buy another fastback for the same price, decided against it lol.

I figured the weld would be a little pricey, unfortunately I've never been able to find the right combo of what I want for sale anywhere.... so this leads me to bite the bullet. (maybe the guys who mod would bid for my business) I'm sure all together it could be packaged nicely.

ha - no... that would be an interesting combo, tho. I've got a Fastback 1.5 just sitting around and I've been wanting to CS and DM. It all started a few weeks ago when I saw this on the fleebay right after I caswelled and painted my Del Mar.

What's really funny is that the putter you just posted, I've used lol. It's my buddy's putter. When he first got it I rolled it some, nice putter. Like I said I thought about doing the same thing to a FB, but after I saw how much it was going to cost I was just like forget it haha. It would have been cool to use though.

really?? That thing listed on the bay for like $2k or more - ridonkulous! I was head over heels for it, but figured I could get one done for much less than that. it never sold and it hasn't been re-listed since. Either way, it's great motivation for my proj. (Fastback was given to me a long time ago, I used it for a season, now it just sits.. so I'm starting ahead of the game already.

Yep that's his. I can't legally say what he paid for it, so I'll just say you pay more for a bag of tees, quite a bit more. I had a chance to buy it long before he listed it at a heck of a price, but just didn't need it. He has some ridiculous connections, the perks of being a tour player astound me. Back to the topic, I mean if you want to shell out the cash, go for it. Just as another heads up, I've heard a few putter guys say they really can't get it to be the exact same as a CS, simply because it wasn't milled to be one. I don't know exactly how all that works, but some how it doesn't let the neck sit right and something of that nature.

One good thing, it never hurts to ask, the worst that can happen is they tell you no lol. They really are. I've said I was going to punch him before for some of the people he knows and still hasn't introduced me to haha.

+1 I would be surprised if LaMont couldn't do it. This is what he's doing for me, although, it's from scratch but the weld is superb.

So you basically want a cleaner version of my putter. LaMont did all this work in it minus the caswell blackener and paint. I love it and has been in the back for a few months. Seriously its been the best putter I have owned.

Ya pretty much - he sent me his photobucket albums with the various options he has done so I could pick out what I'm looking to get done and wow... he has an impressive lineup. I'm starting with a fastback 1.5 though - but I don't think that should be an issue since the neck is coming off.

I really hope the price is right that he quotes me, cause I'm looking to ship this thing out as soon as today if it is.

What was the turn around time on yours?

I have a buddy that had his done by Colbert, he said he charged him 169.00 for the Deep Milling and the Center Shaft weld... That was about a year and a half ago, so we will see... I will let you know what I find out tomorrow. his weld looks alot like Lamonts, serviceable not as clean as a otr putter, I don't mind it though, I think it gives it a little more character and noone else will have the exact same flat stick...

This is actually my second center shafted fastback. My first one was a pure center shaft while this one has the half shaft. It gives it a little toe hang which is perfect for me. I bought it from the BST here so I am not sure how long it took to finish. LaMont is great and will get you sorted out.

His welds will look like you tell him you want them to look.

 

 

That is the whole point of getting custom work. If any person gets a custom putter, or custom work done, and doesn't like the end result, it was due to poor planning or communication. Lamont or Kevin will do what ever you tell them to do. These guys have mad skills.

seriously - with your words of caution earlier, I expected it to be much higher... I'm hoping to fine tune my order here with LaMont in the next few days and get this sucker shipped out to the desert.

Actually you'll probably get an email from him Saturday night around 2am, I always seemed to get responses at funny times. Spends his days doing his craft and nights drumming more work. He says he sleeps on Christmas.
