Another Scottsdale Trip

Southern Dunes, Quintero, Raven @ Verrado, Grayhawk

Going to AZ the last weekend of March with a group of 12 and trying to figure out course line-up. Played WeKoPa last year and loved it, but we want to inject some fresh blood into the trip. Right now here is our proposed lineup:

Thursday - 36 @ Southern Dunes
Friday - either Quintero or Raven at Verrado
Saturday - 36 @ Grayhawk (both courses)
Sunday - Raven at South Mountain (close to airport)

We have a few guys who want to play Verrado and I, personally, have heard Quintero is a must play and want to play there. I am also not thrilled about 36 at the same course. Any suggestions and preferences of the courses listed or any other courses we could pair with Southern Dunes? Your help is much appreciated.

Out in the west valley is the Golf Club of Estrella, not far from Verrado and would make a good choice for a 2nd round.

Down in Maricopa near Southern Dunes is The Duke. A really good course that flies under the radar mostly due to its location within a mundane tract home development. Fun to play, inexpensive, and would allow a 36-hole day.

Not sure what your budget is but I would definitely do Quintero if you haven't played it yet. It's a unique experience, being so isolated from anything else. I would also look
into Superstition Mountain which is a Private club that takes on public play (similar to Quintero). I'd also look into Gold Canyon (Dinosaur Mountain), and given the choice
between Troon North Pinnacle and Grayhawk Raptor, I would always go with Troon North. Troon is just more pristine and scenic than Grayhawk. Usually your best bet is to find deals for Troon on either Golfnow or Craigslist certificates. My favorite course of all the publics is WeKoPa Cholla, but it sounds like you've played there. Raven at Verrado is the much better of the two Raven courses FYI. There's much less house encroachment on the Verrado property. Hope this helps.

Forgot to add that the Boulders is also awesome, and is the kind of course worth finding a deal on GolfNow to play.

I also should mention an alternative for your getaway Sunday - Legacy Golf Resort. It is virtually next door to the Raven (now called the Raven Phoenix).

From my experience, the Raven has always been kept in a perpetual swamp condition while the Legacy is typically firm and fast. They are both Gary Panks designs and probably similarly priced.
