Looks like Vijay pulled the trigger on the ever growing in popularity Cleveland 588 Forged irons. Classic driver too...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Are those the old Cleveland 588 wedges or the new ones with different stampings and finish?

 

 

 

They are Tour Issue 588 in the Matte Black Finish. Most bigger Cleveland accounts can order the 588 Tour Zip Grooves. I see that Vijay still has the Adams A3 hybrid in the bag.....that driver looks interesting....will have to check it out this year. Thanks for the pics!!!

 

Those tour issue wedges look so much cleaner than the commercial ones. Are you saying that the tour issues can be purchased?

 

 

 

Yes. Some Cleveland accounts have access to the "Tour Issue" program. I'm not sure what the requirements are, but the course I used to work at was part of that program. They had a Cleveland staff bag that has "TI" and then in small letters under it "Tour Issue". They stocked the 588 Tour Zip Groove Wedges C7 Tour "C" heads and TXXXX drivers and fairways. I'm sure it still exists....I think 300tour, a member here was a dealer with access to that program.

If Cleveland had satins he wouldn't have the chrome. Chrome is dying a slow death. Wish it was faster.

Thanks for including Vijay in your postings. The magazines seem more interested in featuring the 'flippy-wristed-college-kids' (as S. Snead used to call them), in their WITBs than some of game's elderstatesmen. I could watch Singh's full swing all day long--so-s-m-o-o-t-h!!! (After I see which putter and/or grip changes he has made in a given week, I want to cover my eyes and wait to hear the ball hit the hole!) Thanks again, keep up the great work!

I have to agree, his swing is nice. Very nice person. But his putting is ... well, I have the pics in the Sony pics thread.

Would love to see the VeeJ contend this year. I wonder why he doesn't try irons that are a bit more forgiving given that he is moving on in his years now..... Guess he prefers the feel and feedback given how much he practices....

Not to Vijay hate, but I'd take you on this one. I really hope no one who holds a putter like that ever wins the Masters (and since Vijay can't make anything these days I'm not too worried), the 2 Open courses (Olympic and Royal Lytham) will eat him alive if the rough is up and he keeps bashing driver every hole. Kiawah might work for him, but has he ever been a great wind player? Is he in the field for the US Open yet? I remember he didn't even qualify for it last year.

I really wonder why he doesn't just putt the "traditional" way like he did when he won all of those tournaments and became #1 back in 2004. I still remember saying, "It's about time he just putted normal and actually made a few," after many years with left hand low, belly, belly left hand low, ect. putting methods.

It's a shame too because he's such a great ball striker

The putter is a center shafted never compromise sigma, made into a belly putter. it was never available retail as a belly.

If the MB's are available in LH, and the CB's are available in LH, one has to wonder why the combo set is not?

I know some don't like the stamping's on the cavity but these are a very attractive iron.

+1....i ripped the driver when I first saw it (thought it was a weak attempt at a Clev classic), but have since changed my mind watching KB BOMB it!!

I like chrome. I imagine if Vijay does not like chrome, Cleveland could have made them for him special in the gun blue/black or satin finish.

Vijay likes a more "standard" weight head in the belly, doesn't surprise me.

Which would be very interesting because Cleveland makes everything LH, which is why I love them and 12 out of 14 is currently CG. The only reason I can think of it's most $$$ to forge lefty's, than to cast them. Just a guess. BUt I would be really disappointed if they don't come out lefty. I too was hoping combo set.

My guess is that it is a numbers game. I imagine that they feel they will not sell enough of the LH Blades to justify creating them. Just a guess, though.
