My impression

Watching the Golf Channel today. I am really impressed with the beauty of the courses at La Quinta. I will have to try to go there one day. Has anyone ever played there?

I lived there for 10 years and miss it beyond the great golf. LaQuinta has the most Spanish charm of the desert resort cities which all have their own distinct feel. The vistas from LQ are spectacular. Though Palm Springs is the brand that sells the area, it is much more than that. There are 110+ courses between the 8 resort cities each offering something different.

I have visited La Quinta every year for the last 5 years...except this year. I love the place. I feel at home and love the courses. Everyone I have introduced to the place loves it as well.

I was thinking the same as I watched also.. being in LA, I'd love to play a course there soon. can someone provide a shortlist of some of the noteworthy, affordable courses you've had a chance to play?

Add Desert Willow (both courses); Gary Player at the Westin Mission Hills Resort and maybe Shadow Ridge to those above. If someone like Stand By Golf or a friend can get you on Mission Hills CC, the Dinah Tournament course is a tough track and a favorite. Be sure to save room for those incredible pork chops at Castelli's in Palm Desert too.

There are many write ups of the PS area.
I have posted a few as well.
I visit there every Dec for about 2 wks then back in late spring often as well.
I can tell you that I find it the most comforting area I visit. It has a calmness that soothes me.
I love the snow capped peaks and the palm trees and the greenness of the grasses. Ahhhh.
And there is a wealth of great courses to play in a vast array of price ranges.
I agree about LaQuinta, but might also suggest The Westin at Mission Hills or Marriott at Shadow Ridge or Indian Wells has an awesome facility. La Quinta might be my least fav.
For Golf, holy cow, where to start.
#1 is prob SIlverrock.
Others I bring friends out to when visiting.
Desert Willow, Encena, Indian Wells (both players and celebrity), Terra Lago (like North better), Classic Club, Eagle Falls, Desert Dunes, Mission Hills has a Gray Player and a Pete Dye, I could go on, but those are my favs.
And then the dining, bars, shopping, Hiking, its just an awesome area.
I went snowboarding and played golf same day last month.
It is however not a big nightlife, party it up town. FYI. Myrtle or Vegas for that.
It fits great for me. Heading back there in March and San Diego in June.

Palm Springs has an airport. There is also one in Ontario (1.5 hours). Good fitness centers, pools, spas, shopping, etc....

The "Springs" in Palm Springs means much more than golf. It is the richest landscape in the US for "natural spas." The shopping, though not LA or SD is beyond good too. If she likes gambling; she'll have numerous options (sorry!). Tennis? As good as the golf. Have fun...

The outlet mall just outside Palm Sprinds could easily keep her busy during your round!

la quinta is one of the best places if you go on a golf trip. small townish and not a ton to do until you drive 20 mins to palm springs. but tons of food and hotel's. Arnold Palmers restaurant is right around the corner from the humana challenge and that is a fun place.
