Circa #1 Help! Can this be saved??

Advice and suggestions welcomed!

I picked this putter up locally. Has a fair bit of rust on it and a few nicks and dings. Not as bad a shape as some of the beat up camerons posted on this site and restored.

I want to restore this to its former greatness or just make it beautiful again. Signfiicant rusting will need to be removed. Any advice or suggestions on what I can do to restore this? I have limited experience and knowledge with restoration/refinishing so I will require idiot-proof instructions :)

Also, if it's too much work, should I just let this go at a loss?

oh that thing looks just terrible. too far gone to do anything. you might as well just send it to me and forget about it.

seriously, that thing looks great. would be easy to do a DIY refinish.

Yeah you will have NO PROBLEM bringing that thing back to life. use the search function of "refinishing" etc and you will find a ton of stuff on this. Congrats on the pick up

you probably wont even need to file or sand it to do the refinish, since it basically has no dings. just follow the other instructions.

thanks for the response guys. how do i remove the rust from the putter? I think once the rust clears up I can better examine the nicks, dings, or scratches on the putter. then decide whether to have it refinished or try do it myself.

soak in coca cola or naval jelly for a few hours. that's it. or rub with steel wool.

ok thanks for the help. i'm likely going to send it to refinish. probably to a trusty golfwrx member as it's not a major project. just a question. i'm doing a little cost-benefit analysis. what do you say the putter is worth in current condition vs. a newly refinished condition? trying to decide how much I can spend on restoration to make it worth it.

No clue. I dong do mods for resale value. I do them for fun and to get the putter looking the way it should. It's hard to make money by having someone refinish and then selling. IMO, do it because you want it to look good. If not, just sell it as is and it'll be worth more to someone like ne in this condition.

Naval jelly use is about 10 minutes at a time. Hours of naval jelly soaking = destroyed putter head.

Coke can be used hours at a time though.
