Annoying personalities

I used to watch the Golf Channel all the time, but is it me or are they a bunch of cheesy personalites on the show? Don't get me wrong I love the fact that they are getting PGA tour coverage, I like the fact that I can catch Euro golf in the morning, and I absolutly love all the old classics you can occasionally catch. The top 10 things that annoy me about the Golf Channel:

1. Dr. Gio Valiente-the guy drives me crazy, first of all I dont need to see a sports psychologist especially when it's just a bunch of drivel. I think I used to beat him up at recess when we were kids. Please! get the guy off the air! Can you say CHANGE THE CHANNEL?

2. Jim McLeans 8 step swing-please how many swing thoughts does a guy need?
3. Vince Cellini- do I need to elaborate?
4. The fat guy from the big break that is on the 19th hole.
5. Enough with the Big Break already!
6. Frank Thomas-is it me or does he talk about the same thing every week.
7. Kelly tilghman-does she have a personality?
8. Katherine Roberts- quit talking and just stand there.

I am seriously not interested in a thing Dr. Gio Valiente has to say. It's a waste of airtime as far as I'm concerned.

 

Frank Thomas would be interesting sometimes, if I didn't learn most of his facts through Golfwrx already. But please stop telling me to get a 15° driver in regular flex please. I have better chance in buying a 'Frankly Frog' putter.

 

Faldo is going to bring a lot to TGC. At least I hope so, because the announcers right now are less interesting as non-fat yogurt.

I despise Brian Hewitt. He seems like a third wheel with his not so creative "headlines". Best ppl on the channel without question are Frank Nobilo and Brandel Chamblee. Kelly T. has her stuff down too.

 

Adam Barr is a little annoying somewhat as well but I'll let him slide. Brian Hewitt......banana cream pie to the face! all due respect however. ;-)

 

oh yeah and Vince is the MAN! I idolize his chill life.

 

 

and........... the big break should die. I've totally lost interest. more 19th hole I say.

I can accept the Wie dissing cause I feel teh same way but his Monte dissing is annoying cause he does it in the context of a "Rah Rah USA" vibe.

 

I am not feeling Michelle Wie at all sorry.

 

they should bring back a "Shell's Wonderful World of Golf" type thing where it's one on one for 18holes for charity. That show was awesome.

+1 on "Shell's Wonderful World of Golf." It the only golf coverage that isn't all putting and/or a white orb floating behind a light blue background.

There is only one thing worse in life than the golf channel, and that is not having a golf channel.

The personality I miss is Peter Kessler. I thought he was classy, even if some of his questions were a little long winded. His voice is tremendous, especially on the Classic reruns. Too bad his segments have been redone.

 

I think Adam Barr's swing is hideous, I mean fugly hideous. Let me host What's In The Bag?. I have a personality and a good swing and can really appreciate visiting all the manufacturers. I do not believe my swing makes people want to throw up like Adam Barr's swing makes me feel.

Not a fan of Dr. Gio. I do turn the channel when he is on.

 

I enjoy the 19th hole but I do enjoy it more when the "big dog" is not on. I think he has jumped the shark.

 

Other then that I love the channel. It will only get better as they start there tour coverage

Just like The Golf Channel where you can choose to watch (or not watch) whatever you like, you can choose to ignore posts with which you do not agree. Heck, I do it all the time--in both examples.

 

 

On topic:

 

I completely agree on Dr. Gio---at the very least scrape up Rotella if we're going to hear from a head shrinker. I find Gio doesn't have much to contribute other than he's close to the TGC studios.

 

The only other thing that really bothers me about TGC------Dave Pelz. Why do I have to hear from him, on various subjects including Phil's preparation, putting and green complexes, when there are multiple participants in Majors sitting there listening!?

 

I would much rather hear from Nobilo, Aliss, or Lye provide recommendations/descriptions on how to play certain holes and greens. Hey Dave, pick up the slide rule and do what you do best...leave the actual golf to the professionals!

 

Sorry about that, but thats the end of my mini-rant.

I must agree,,,regardless of feelings about induvidual air talents on the Golf Channel,,it is GREAT to have TGC.

But Adam Barr? I think he has some of the most interesting facts/info you can find in golf,,who else is going to cover the equipment/business end of the industry better?His delivery is just plain professional,,his info is ALWAYS sourced and credible and he comes across as a genuine nice guy who isn't afraid to ask the right questions.

I really think TGC does a super job.Could it be better?I'm sure but it could be a lot worse.

I feel Faldo is a big waste of money as a commentator goes.Come on,,for $900,000 a year they could do better.

Vince is cool,,,Craig is on it. Kelly???Interesting but I don,t see her as the "lead" player they want her to be.Brian Hammons and Kelly should switch roles,,PERIOD.She would be a great game commentator and Brian would be a very solid anchor.But what do I know,,,I,m just a radio broadcaster/owner/operator for 18 years.Even so these are just personal opinions,,but overall The Golf Channel is a very professional operation with high standards.

But PLEASE!!!!!GET RID OF THE BIG BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is boring and has me searching for other programming,,,even repeats of Andy Griffith is more interesting.

When I think about it, TGC is exactly as I would expect it. In some areas, very cool, decent coverage, but in other areas, very boring with some personalities that have little talent.

 

It's all about economics. TGC is not even close to an ESPN, FOX Sports, NBC Sports, or any other major network. It's a cable channel covering a small sport. So, it's not surprising to see a lot of dumb shows, idiot personalities and a lot of repeats. On top of all that, TGC still sells a lot of infommercial airtime for products you do not need.

 

So, why the high expectations that some of you have? Watch something else or get out and play golf. I certainly watch a lot less TGC than I ever did and I really don't see the PGA Tour coming over changing that much at all.

It's really not your call to make that judgement. So feel free to share your opinions in a respectful manner on TGC, but please refrain from counterpointing another post in a personal manner. If you do not like a post that is in your judgement a "hate" post, then change the channel and/or let the moderating team deal with it.
