St. George/Mesquite Golf Trip

I think I've played nearly every course in St. George now, I love Coral Canyon and always have a great time on that course. Sand Hollow is a great round.
Played Wolf Creek for the first time last year and it is a) absolutely worth the drive b) absolutely worth the green fee c) an absolute blast to play. Its a crazy course, after 9 we all (three 4 somes) decided to move up a tee box and see what we could do. None of us were super players so playing up one set of tees made it even more fun.

On the falcon ridge back nine, it's really the layout. 11 is a short par where u drive rt to a fair that needs a guidance post (over the crest of the hill there is a biker and the fwy ends). The second shot is short, but the green literally looks like it is on the patio of a house.

The 12th is a par 5 with a drop off of maybe 200 ft to the fwy- the problem is that you have to lay up or u run through the fwy into water. This would be a cool hole if it were 100 yds longer.

More holes on the back are weird and need guidance posts. 17 is a par 3 that is as close to stadium golf as I have seen with houses tight on 3 sides of the hole. 18 is an avg par 4 to the base of a big hill- you finish and then drive up it in your cart. They should have home in the opposite direction and let you tee off on top of the hill.

I'm used to flat and windy courses. Playing a canyon course with lots of elevation changes was a nice change for me. I do agree about a few holes you mentioned. I didn't like anything about #11. The par 5 12th is a bit unfair. There is no way to take it across the water unless you are playing the really short tees. You have to lay up off the tee and you can't see the green at all with a maximun layup from what I remember. Even if you could I don't think you could make it anyways. It would have to be 250+ over water, blind and into a green that is very shallow front to back. Having said that, the hole is aesthetically amazing. I like #11 and #18 though. Both have split fairways. #11 is like a little valley if I remember correctly. You are elevated off the tee and then hitting uphill into the green for your second. We were caught in darkness for 17 and 18, so I don't remember those two as well. I think I liked 18 though. Falcon is probably not the type of course you would play everyday, but still worth playing in my opinion.

Well here is my short recap of the trip

Thursday we played Sky Mountain

Wind, Wind, Wind and greens that were fast because of it. The course was in pretty good shape and what I remembered but was more focused on staying warm after driving 5+ hours in snow to get there.

Friday we played The Ledges

As mentioned the course is dormant but the greens were in good shape. Played 36 and the first tee time at 9:30 when it was 37 degrees didn't help. Guy was nice enough to give us a cheaper rate $75 for 36 and gave us cart covers which was night an day different from the day prior.

Saturday out to Kokopelli

Utahgolfdeals has an offer going on for March. Was a little scared as we drive up a dirt road to a parking lot with no range but this course will be special in a few years. Weather was great and we enjoyed ourselves. Some areas in the fairway were spotty at best but the greens, even though sanded a few weeks prior, were in great shape. Like I said 2 to 3 years from now this could be the cake for S Utah golf.


I set this up on the cheap for buddies so I didn't expect the best golf if that's what you want but worth the price we paid for this time of year as its the most expensive time.
