My Phoenix Trip-Review

Guys,

 

Thanks again for all of the guidance. The weather was perfect, mid 70's and sunny everyday. For what it's worth I thought I'd put together a review for those traveling to the valley to see. I learned a lot about golf on this trip. It forced me to be a smarter player and to enjoy the surroundings as much as the game itself.

 

We-ko-pa Saguaro-I don't remember one shot or how I played (probably not well) because I was absolutely in awe of the course. I wish I would have played it the last day because it did overshadow the others. It was $200+ but it's beyond amazing and an experience I won't forget. I've only played one other of the "great" courses and this was better. The only negative was I was paired up with 3 of the biggest dildos I've ever played golf with. Each time one of them would hit the other two would raise their hands to call for "silence" as if they were on tour. I don't think any of them broke 95.

 

Arizona Grand-My buddies schedule forced us to this dump. The only hole with any redeeming value was 18. Avoid this place.

 

Raven at Verrado-Awesome place. The service was incredible, the staff is super friendly, food is great and affordable. The course is very playable from the forward tees yet challenging enough and would be a monster from the back tees. If I lived there this is a place I'd consider "joining". The course was in immaculate shape, the greens were true, and the architecture is beautiful.

 

Quintero-Other than We-ko-pa I was looking forward to this round more than any other. For $170 I was extremely disappointed. First, the greens were awful. They were sandy, like ritz cracker sandy. Second, they didn't provide any sort of course map/distance card. In place of that they gave us a cheap hole guide that told you how far to hit it. The pace of play seemed ok, there was a little bit of waiting but no big deal, but every hole the marshals would be there yelling at you about pace. The guys in front of me said that they marshals made them move their ball up when they were waiting for the guys in front of them. I wish I would have played Estrella, Raven at South Mountain instead. To their credit it's a beautiful course that's visually stunning. The par 3's were all a lot of fun.

 

Boulders South-This was awesome. I got paired up with three guys from Dallas who were a blast. The course is immaculate. It's not long but challenging. It's unique without being gimmicky. If I go back again I will play this at least once.

 

Southern Dunes-Great staff and service. The course isn't like any other that I played out there. Its not a desert course. Like Raven it was extremely playable from the forward tees and would be a monster from the tips. The course is absolutely not a grip it and rip it track. It will make you think about each shot. The only downside is it's location. It's 90 minutes from Scottsdale easily. It's a great course.

 

If I had another 5-6 days to come out and play I'd definately play Boulders South, and I'd like to try Cholla at We-ko-Pa. I'd put Raven as a "like to play" but would like to check out Gold Canyon, and Longbow, and Troon next time out. Southern Dunes is great but I'm not sure the drive would be enough to overshadow those I didn't get to play.

 

All in all it was a lot of fun and appreciate everyone's guidance.

Nice review thanks

I am down there in May and planning on playing Quintero for the first time so will keep an eye out for further reviews as sounds like the marshalls there can kill the experience

AZ Grand has the best driving range.....Ever

Great review. I tend to play Eagle Mountain or WeKoPa since I have an OB Sports card and play for half price. It is tough to play anywhere else for that deal. I played 4 rounds 3 weeks ago and saved $300+. I might even stick to WeKoPa until I get bored, I think i like it a little better than Eagle mountain.
