Critique my swing please!

Recommended Posts

Hello! First post on the forum. I'm trying to get into golf. I've only played about 10-12 rounds in my life, and I'm trying to correct my swing before I develop really bad habits. I do like going to the range and hitting, just haven't played much golf. Ignore the username of "Wrathlegion" (dumb, I know, its my brother's account).

This was after a few tips from some people there, and I was starting to hit it relatively consistent at around 300-320 yards. I think that I need to rotate my hips more in the back-swing and faster before contact. I also think im raising up at the end of my swing. I think i am also probably too far from the ball. Are these correct? Any other advice? Thanks.

if you can hit it bubba long with that swing, why change?

need better camera angles to offer much of anything. straight in front of you around waist height & on your footline straight down the line around waist height. hips are swaying to the right in the backswing which produces a weak coil and puts you in other weird positions, and you're definitely losing your posture and standing up through impact which is why you fall over forwards instead of finishing balanced. as with most amateurs it's an early extension thing where your pelvis moves towards the ball instead of rotating with a left butt that goes deep behind you to create space.

I'll use more angles next time.

probably not. what you see with the bent shaft is a defect in the video capture due to the shutter speed and camera lense.

and you're only gonna get as much out of tips and swing fixes as you put into it.
sean foley & butch harmon would only be able to offer so much from one 45* angle, 30 frames per second shot of your swing. so don't expect a bunch of stuff from here if you don't have a DTL and face on view, and preferably irons.

I appreciate your responses. I will get more/better videos up when I can. I just got back from the range and I have changed my swing a lot. Some of the changes...

1) I have my front foot angled out a little now

2) I switched from a weak grip to a strong grip

3) I don't rise up so early anymore

4) Fixed my release

5) My club goes left after impact (You can see in the video I keep it straight for a good foot after impact)

6) I coil and uncoil my hips much better

7) I am more balanced through the swing

Thats all I can think of right now. I'm hitting my irons beautifully now and my drives have a nice draw to them while being both more consistent and longer (Flew most range balls 285+ into the water that is behind the range)

You may be right about the camera, but I have it slowed down and you can see a massive bend right when the club is getting parallel to the ground. I don't see how a camera could cause that.

Right, but from my understanding of it... it only exaggerates the action. There is a forward bend there, the camera just makes it look bigger. I could be wrong on that though.

did you see the links i posted? you really think there's forward bend in helicopter blades too?
All I'm saying is that there is forward bend in the golf shaft at certain points in the swing. There is the effect from slow shutter speed digital cameras, but there is forward bend. I don't pretend to know as much about golf as really anyone here, but I do know this 100% for a fact. I really didn't want to get in an argument about it, I'm just trying to learn.
