Attempting the Hardy 1 plane swing

I am attempting to model the Hardy 1 plane swing and I feel that I have made some good progress. I think that my backswing is OK but where I struggle is the downswing. I always lose my spine angle to some degree and have no luck taming it. Any suggestion are welcome. Also feel free to comment on other aspects of my swing.


There are 2 swings in the video, the second is a slow motion of the first.

Tough to be 100% sure without frame-by-frame, but I'd say that your arms need work both in the backswing and downswing. If you have the dvd set, study the sections on the arms. Looks to me as if your right elbow is not going back and up enough in the first half of the backswing; also, the clubhead seems to come inside the hands too soon.

 

In the downswing, you aren't getting any counter-clockwise rotation of the right forearm in the first half of the downswing or any throw of the right arm around to the left: your swing is in-to-out and too much down the line.

 

All the above are two-plane traits that are hard to get rid of. By all means, get the dvd set if you don't have it, study it and keep video taping to check your progress. Good luck!

The hands, arms and club travel too much in the direction of the target, or "down-the-target line", after impact. The arms need to be "rounder": as Jim would say "throw the arms around a turning body". Contrast your arms after impact with this DTL sequence of Hogan:

I really hope you're watching Academy Live right now, because the info from Mike Labauve is priceless.

 

I love the image of getting the "watch face down" on the downswing, that's a great visual for getting "palm down."

swing looks lot like KJ Choi's... where your down-swing path is higher than your backswing path..

after looking at your other swing videos, it looks like you're releasing way too early.

1) You maintain a closed clubface throughout your backswing. There is a certain amount of fanning open on your backswing that allows you to get into a better position and top and lets your turn better. Right now, your clubface is shut at the top of your backswing. Allow your arms to naturally rotate on the backswing. You're restricting the motion.

 

2) Your downswing swing path is outside-in. I spotted that even before watching the slow motion bit. You need to improve your swing path. Look for swing path correction drills on google or on this site.

 

Work on the above and also on maintaining your spine angle, your ball striking will improve greatly.
