I want one really badly, but I am just not too sure about the whole Blu-Ray disc. They haven't been out long and I am not sure how they will preform. Not to mention I hate to drop $600 right around Christmas time when I still have plenty of gifts to buy. I will most likely wait until they have been out for a couple of months and then see how it is going with the rest of the public and then get one.

Hey guys,

I have been in the video game industry for 10 years now, so I will try to provide some adivce here.

The biggest misconception is that the PS3 is MUCH more powerful than the X360. The reality is that it is not. As a matter of fact the first generation PS3 games will NOT match the quality of games currently available for the X360 (Gears of War, Need for speed carbon etc). The PS3 is EXTREMELY (and I can't emphasize that enough) difficult to program for. It is a paradigm of programming that will take developers some time to master. I do not expect that PS3 games will make full use of the system's capabilities for at least 3 years (my guesstimate).

I would suggest that if you want the Blue ray capability (not quality games), get a PS3. Shoot, that is the ONLY reason I am getting one (when I can). However, I would not pay $1500-$3500 on eBay for one. I would wait until they are freely available.

The system I am most excited about is the Nintendo Wii. Not for the technology (it is only slightly more powerful than the Game Cube), but because of the library of games, and the new innovative controls that the Wii controller will introduce. Also at $250, it will be the cheapest of the 3.

If you are looking for Graphical Quality and don't need a blue ray player, get the X360.

Just thought I would try to be helpful.

I agree with you 100%... I've also heard the drive on the p3 is Slow..

but I like Gran Turismo and Hot Shots Golf... PGM and Outlaw golf just dont do it for me, I'm tired of TW200X already.

Forgot to mention. The other cool thing about the Wii is that you will be able to download all the classic NES, SNES and sega genesis for between $5-$10.

The Wii looks great as a "party" console. Get some friends over, drink a few brews and play some virtual golf. I wouldn't want it as my only gaming platform though.

Does everyone know that the PS3 won't play alot of PS2 and PS1 games?

New Sony PS3 not in synch with older games

About 200 titles affected by glitch; gaming system, which went on sale Saturday in Japan, is crucial in Sony's battle with Microsoft and Nintendo.

November 14 2006: 7:52 AM EST

TOKYO (Reuters) -- Sony said Tuesday its new video game console, the PlayStation 3, does not run about 200 PlayStation and PlayStation 2 software titles properly, the latest problem the electronics maker has run into in its cash-cow game business.

The PS3, which Sony (Charts) calls its most important strategic product of the year, went on sale in Japan on Saturday, setting the stage for a three-way showdown with Microsoft's (Charts) already available Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii.

Sony said audio features do not work on some software titles when played on the PS3, which is supposed to be compatible with games designed for its previous models, while some other titles do not work on the latest machine at all.

Shares in Sony closed up 0.9 percent at ¥4,730 ($40.05), underperforming a 1.64 percent gain in the Tokyo stock market's electrical machinery index but in line with Nintendo stock.

Industry specialists say the glitches appear to be the kind of hiccups that often plague console launches and are not likely to have a lasting impact on the PS3 business.

"There are always sorts of little problems at launch ... It may take some time to make everything compatible, but I don't think it's a huge problem," KBC Securities analyst Hiroshi Kamide said.

Indeed, Microsoft received customer complaints following its Xbox launch in Japan in 2002 that the console was scratching game discs, while Sony's PS2, which it released in 2000, had compatibility problems with PS games.

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), Sony's game unit, plans to fix the PS3 problems by offering online upgrades for system software, SCE spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka said.

And they're off

Sony sold 88,400 units of the PS3 in the first two days of the Japan launch, clearing out most stores' stock, video game magazine publisher Enterbrain said Monday.

The PS3 will be launched in North America on Friday. Gamers in Europe must wait until March due to a glitch in commercial production of blue laser diodes, a key component of the game gear's Blu-ray high-definition DVD player.

The Tokyo-based electronics and entertainment conglomerate aims to ship 6 million units of the PS3 by March.

The original PS and PS2 have each sold more than 100 million units.

Sony, which has dominated the game market over the past decade, has packed the PS3 with its latest technology, including a Blu-ray player and the Cell microchip, dubbed a "supercomputer on a chip."

But the new machine's lifelike graphics and fast downloading of game software and video clips come at a price.

Sony sells a basic model for ¥49,980 ($424.90) in Japan, almost double the price of the Wii, which will be released in the United States on Sunday and Dec. 2 in Japan.

Well I played PS3 a little today and it is pretty sweet, Im not gonna lie. I love the wireless controlers, a great setup. I only got to play The Resistance, which is a sweet game with my bro, and friend and we had a great time, it got pretty intence. My bro said TW07 is a lot better than the ps2 version, so thats a ++. I dunno if The Resistance is as good as Halo but I really liked it. I dunno if you can use cars and stuff in The Resistance but I still enjoyed it.

Its just lighter, no cord, and no vibration mechanism. The little playstation logoed button is neat, you can like turn off the system or controllers just with the little button, neat deal. The controllers seemed pretty solid to me, I already put them too the "test" while playing resistance. I went to slap my knee after i got killed while the controller was resting on me knee, and well I sorta launched the contoller at the wall ;) It held up so I think there allright.

Just played TW07 for PS3 for about 2-3 hours and it is AMAZING. It is nothing like the PS2 version for those of you that have that. Its soo real looking its insane. They got JL shirts and pants which is sweet. They also have quicksilver stuff, but still no cleveland!?! ;) I dont think EA spent a whole lot of time on the PS2 version, but they for sure made up for it with the PS3 version. Nicely done EA!
