What makes LD drivers better than big name stuff? Looking at buying my first..

Geek DCT? Looking for course use...

Never even seen a LD driver. Wanting to get one to experiment with on the course. Hoping to add some yards obviously.


Only one I heard of was Bang o Matic, buddy of mine hit one (a mile).


I read of the GEEK DCT. Good club?


I hit the ball about 260-270 with my 3/4 swing. Looking to crank things up a bit. For fun mostly, but if I can control it, will put it in my bag.


Wondering what length you might suggest? Finding fairways is a priority. What does each inch add in yardage typically? Perhaps a 46-47" driver is a realistic goal for me.


What makes the LD heads better? Meaning, how does the ball flight vary?

Hitting 9.5-10 deg drivers with stiff shafts now. Any suggestions. Looking for a much lower ball flight to maximize roll. I hit a high ball.



Lastly, where do you guys buy your clubs? I don't know where to start.

Not sure I have much advice for you, but I have batted around the idea of building a long drive club. Not sure it would be over 45", but I think it would be fun to play around with.




Anyway, I know Sellinger's Power Golf has a wide selection. I think lots of guys order through them? Also, popular heads seem to be Adams, Geek, Alpha, Krank, etc.



As far as what makes the heads different, I think most of them are designed for ultra low launch and spin.

All the launch debate can be a little confusing with longer than normal drivers. The industry tries to sell regular drivers as high launch / low spin but, are you saying that the long drivers are going with low launch??? I know as you increase a clubs length with all other parameters staying the same that it will launch higher and go higher (not necessarily further due to spin). Are the lofts on long driver heads to accommodate the length of shaft or for launching it even lower for more roll and less spin??

My numbers match Dan's above. Would like to fool around a little with one as I have seen an increase in distance for me with an older Taylormade 1.0 burner with the 46.5" shaft and 9.5 degree head. Picked up on average about 10-15 yards or more sometimes over my other driver, which is 10* with 44.5" shaft.

Long drive is really a trial and error sport. You have to find what fits your swing to maximize launch, spin, etc. I would recommend getting and Adams 9088 7.5*, with an Aldila prototype shaft built to 46.5". Call Sellingers Power Golf and they can point you in the right direction. Good luck!

you just have to try multiple combos ....you wouldn't be able to tell ...just get your hands on it !!!

Everyone has a different 'cutoff' as to what will work
It is a trial and error thing-
Drop loft -flex-length slowly -don't go from hitting a 10.5* S flex 46" driver to a 6* 3X-48" club- for most it will not work
It takes time to get used to and you'll find what your cutoff is -of course the better the player-the better they can adjust

LD heads are not magic distance bullets,. they still have to pass USGA COR testing just like any OEM head. Most are designed to be low spin, so if you don't have a high swing speed, you might actually lose distance.
