Anyone hit an Goldwin driver?

XXL AVDP longest driver i've hit

Has anyone here hit the old Goldwin AVDP drivers? I had a XXL AVDP and it's the longest driver I've ever hit by far, and that was before high COR faces. The theory was that they used a really big but shaft(1 inch) and a light shaft, and put some of the weight in the head but threw the rest away. So you had a REALLY light club, but it still had a heavy head. The shaft and the grip combined weighed around 60 grams!. The head was really heavy, but when you swung the club it felt really really light. An added benefit i noticed to this was that I found that it was easier to get a late wrist releast in the swing.

It seems manufacturers today are stuck on the aprox 200g heads and 60-70 gram shafts, but FOR ME the Goldwin AVDP system was WAY WAY better. I'd love to see manufacturers expiriment with weight more(kinda like heavyputters does with their putters)

I wonder if any others had such a positive expirience with the drivers as me. I do have an old golf mag, and the AVDP drivers got the best distance reviews by far of any driver.

Yup I had one of those. head was milled from a block of aluminum. lightwieght club with a high swingwieght (I think it was like E6). Was a nice club but definetly not the longet I've owned. Think I still have it around here somewhere.

Going back a lot of years, Goldwin hit the headlines when a guy used one to set a new World Long Drive record, something like 425 yards. They were really expensive in those days as were the Liquidmetal clubs

I went through the AVDP XL and XXL drivers many moons ago. The big problem with the 7075-T6 aluminum bodies was that they have a finite stress tolerance. Given enough time with higher swing speeds, they are going to break. I have cracked the face of every Goldwin driver I have owned.

My other issue was the weight. Goldwin showed me what happened when my club got too light. Flippy and wristy through impact, I never could keep it under control.
