Recommendation for a golf trip end of May/beginning of June?

Recommended Posts

Anywhere in North America
A few buddies of mine decided that we're going to take a last minute golf trip for 4-5 days at the end of May / beginning of June.

Based on weather, etc, any recommendations on places to go?

We went to Phoenix/Scottsdale a couple years ago and had a great time. Wouldn't mind going back. Played Troon North Monument, We Ko Pa, TPC Champions, and Vista Verde.

We're all in our late 20's / early 30's. Good food would be fantastic.

Prefer to play in 15-25 degree celsius weather (60 - 75 degree fahrenheit)

I think Pinehurst and surrounding area does aeration mid May to mid June.
If you want something a little different than what most others would suggest, look into Indianapolis, IN. There are a number of really, really good public course that would be a fantastic value compared to most resort areas. Late May in Indiana is just about perfect weather (with occasional thunderstorms), and you would have the Indy 500 practice going on most days as well.

i am in western NY but there is a great golf "compound" in central NY--Turning Stone casino. what more could 20 somethings want? a casino AND awesome golf courses.

here is my .02$:

they have 3 championship courses (the names i will try to re-type--they are based on native american words, and i cannot remember the spelling):

the first--Atunyote (tom fazio) is their premier course and hosts the PGA in the fall. it is AWESOME! it only sees about 1,000 rounds a year and is in PRISTINE shape. some rounds you feel like you own the place. if you time it right, it will be in PGA shape complete with grandstands and ropes. you can wave to the fake fans.

the second is kalyuat (trent jones jr.). this is a beast! accuracy is key and some holes are absolutely stunning.

the third, my favorite, is Shenendoah (rick smith). it's the "easiest" of the three but i think the most fun. especially number 4--which is drivable.

the 4th, sandstone hallow, is a nice executive course that we had a 1 club challenge at. very nice, and also a rick smith design.

so for all four courses, with free replays on the last two, free round at the par 3, and a room in the tower--a steal at $520. Atunyote alone is $250 a person!

check it out: http://www.turningstone.com/promotions/index.php?sectpreview=golf

as a caveat i do not work for TS, i've just played there a few times and done the package thing and it is WORTH EVERY PENNY.

stay in the tower if you want access to the casino, stay in the lodge if you want golf course access.

-a.

While I would endorse Myrtle Beach as a golf destination, I would not overlook Williamsburg, Virginia. It has several great golf venues such as Kingsmill and Golden Horseshoe. While I am not sure if any of your buds are history buffs, Williamsburg has many interesting colonial sites. If gentlemen's clubs are a need, then by all means go to Myrtle Beach as opposed to Williamsburg. I'm a native Virginian so I have some bias. I would also suggest that you not overlook the Pinehurst area in Carolina.
