Hogan IPT Irons

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to possibly acquire a set of Hogan IPTs in mint condition. I was confused about one thing though, and was hoping some classic club experts on here might be able to help me out. I've seen sets of IPTs where the "Ben Hogan" script and the number on the bottom of the sole had blue paintfill, and others where both were black. Not sure if there were more than one edition of the IPTs, or if some of these sets have been refinished with new painfill.

Can anyone tell me what color the original fill on this set is supposed to be? Looking to make a move on these shortly if I can get some further insight.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I dediced to pass on these irons, only because I ended up dropping quite a bit of money on a set of new Hogan Personals. It's really an amazing set...as close to new as I've ever seen. I've had some very enjoyable correspondence with the gentleman selling these, and I mentioned to him that I wanted to let some other Hogan fans out there know that they were up for sale. Anyway...here's his listing. Hope this doesn't violate any forum rules. http://www.ebay.com/itm/320916710376?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619

I have no definitive knowledge on these Irons, I have a set of IPT's, but they are ladies models, and the paintfill in the signature is dark blue. I have other Hogan ladies clubs and if I remember correctly the fill in the sig on them is blue also. you might want to ask about the shafts and flex, Also, early Hogan ladies iron shafts are a smaller diameter than mens shafts, you really want to check on the shafts if you are looking to game these, if you want to collect or display it isn't that big an issue. They are 49 year old, one year only, irons and are not really common. Hope this helps.

The IPT were 1963 and PT III were 1964.I have a set of each in very nice original condition. The Ben Hogan should be dark blue, the number on sole should be dark blue and the + next to the number should be red. Some one probably just did new paint fill in black.
Both years did have 2 different mens models but were different by the shaft they had,no diference in head makeup One was called men and one was a personal model. The personal mens had the N shaft which was the shaft that Hogan played with, hence the personal, The mens had a flash reaction shaft,A,R and S

hope that helps

So I'm guessing the 'N' shafts would be extra stiff? Would they be comparable to X-100's today?

And if you play persimmon, you're my friend

I know this is a waay later posting, I was just cleaning a set of IPT & was looking for info on the set - the bands on all the clubs have “N”….any idea what “N” actually means?

Thanks
