How long does it take aerated greens to get back to normal?

I'm down in FLL now and one of the courses said they punched their greens last week and the holes are all filled in, DOes that mean the greens are back to normal or that they are not as bad as when the holes aren't plugged?

i would say about a 4-6 weeks. If the holes are filled in, there still could be loose sand on the greens. Whenever the greens are sandy, it's anybodys guess on which way the putt is going to roll.

It takes about two weeks for the greens to get back to where you dont see the bounce when you put. You can still tell they had holes punched in them but will not be that bad at two weeks. It will take at least three to get back to normal maybe a month.

Thanks. I thought it would take longer than a week. OTOH, my putting is terrible anyway so maybe it will help.

I'm not sure what my course did... but our greens were tough to putt on for about 6 weeks after aeration... maybe it was just me, but I couldn't read them to save my life for about 2 weeks. Went back today after a week off, and putted great.

Not sure if it was me or the greens.

Weather is a huge factor.

Several variables here - it depends upon the type of greens (the grass), to the weather and soil, to the type of aeration ... there's several different kinds - everything from the half inch holes, to little knives that just makes little slits, to the current cutting edge ... composed of ultra high pressure water injected through the soil, that creates very small holes, still relieves the soil compaction (the purpose of aerating) but heals much quicker.

On average, in my experience, I've seen greens get back to (nearly) normal in 2 - 3 weeks, and also seen them take as long as 6 - 8.

we just had ours punch 9 days ago and they're almost perfect already.

we did very small holes and didn't topdress with sand...

Out of curiousity ... where are you (i.e., northeast, southwest, or etc.) ... and what sort of grass? 9 days is pretty quick ...

Bermuda greens take much longer to "heal" but it really matters on the process used. We have bent grass greens and the healing time can depend upon many different things. I've seen them roll true just a few days later and I've seen it take 2 weeks.

Another course I play has Champion's bermuda and it usually takes at least 2 weeks. However, when they do the "big" holes and vericut them, it can take well over a month.

Bermuda grows better in the summer, but I feel like you get more days of good-to-great conditions out of bent, at least as it relates to putts rolling true. Bermuda is definitely more firm, but I'll take true-roll over grain anyday.

I'll tell you this, nothings as bad as rain soaked greens that then get hailed on by hail the size of golf balls.... needless to day the next day the greens were extremely tough to do anything with.

Southeast. Bent grass. It's been pretty good weather the last few weeks

Depending on wether it was cored or verti drained ? With coring greenskeepers will usually topdress 2-3 times taking about a month to be perfect again but with verti draining they could be back to normal within 2 weeks with favorable weather.

Usually takes two weeks when they do the big holes filled with sand at my home course. They also use something that looks like knife cuts and another that makes pencil size holes. Once or twice a year they do holes the size of your thumb.

There are many variables as has been pointed out. Our punching in Central Mass healed after two weeks of warm weather and lots of rain. I played Kings Course Gleneagles, UK in May, a month after slice seeding and top dressing followed by a return to <50F temps and the greens were basically unputtable.

Large tins can be 2 to 3 weeks
Small tins 3 to 4 days
verdi cut can be 2 days
