Just do a search on Hilton Head and you will get a lot of great reviews from numerous members here. I personally like Hilton Head National so if you get a chance to play there I would highly suggest teeing it up as it is a great track.

Any recommendations? Would love to play Harbor Town obviously, but that is not in my golf budget. Also, will take my son a time or two and he is just beginning. Would be nice to fidn a friendly course to let him go play.

Thanks!

Agree on Hilton Head National, it's always in great shape and it's golf only (no houses, no pool, tennis, etc.). They have a combo deal with Old South (another good track) that makes both fairly cheap. I also like the Arthur Hills course at Palmetto Hall but it's north of $100, even in the summer. I'd pay the extra $$ to play Harbour Town if you can...really fun course.

Crescent Pointe (Arnold Palmer) is a beautiful course that is not too difficult or taxing on the wallet. We're doing a combo deal when we go this summer with Eagle Pointe (Davis Love). 36 holes for $100 is pretty good, considering Harbour Town is $200+. Old South looks really awesome. Looking at playing there too.

Although I agree both Planters and Robbers row are nice layouts the conditions vary greatly so I wold check 1st or avoid them. For a great golf experience take a ferry over to daufuskie island and play Melrose, that is a great track. I also heard that Bloody point will be reopening in August. If you have a day to waste, playing 36 at Melrose is a experience you will not forget

Agree on Melrose, it's a great layout. I read the other day that Bloody Point will be opening in October. DLIII's design group did the refurb on the course so I'm interested to see how it turns out. Haig Point, if you can get on it, is an amazing course.

Also, for what it is worth, I think the Robery Cupp course at Palmetto Hall is one of the finest public tracks in the area. This course never gets the respect it deserves because of bad marketing. They originally marketed the course as some gimmicky geometrical course but this course is nothing short of fantastic. The course plays traditional despite the marketing, it is very challenging and quite scenic.

My first round of golf was with my dad at Old South when I was five or six years old. I don't remember it at all but I still keep a framed picture of us on the first tee. Both courses at Palmetto Hall Plantation are very good and Oyster Reef is a true gem. I have heard multiple accounts of spotty conditions at the Port Royal courses (Barony, Planter's Row, Robber's Row), but every time I have played there they have been in fine shape; I would rate all three as mediocre. Shipyard has three nines and was the least crowded of the courses mentioned when I played them; also mediocre.

[/quote]Good to know on Bloody Point. I'll be there in Nov for a week. Will have to give it a play. :)

As others have said, HH National for me is tops also. Will play that at least once when I'm down. I personally like the Ocean Course at Sea Pines. Favors my type of ball striking.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
