Chandler, AZ : Grass Driving Range and Courses

Guys,

 

I am headed to Chandler from Jul 13 thru 17. Can someone recommend some grass ranges to practice on and courses to play ?

Courses in Chandler I recommend:
Ocotillo - Troon course, three different nines routed through a nice development, very nice, higher prices than most in Chandler, decent all grass range and practice area
Bear Creek - Municipal course, has a par 59 exec and a par 71 full course. It is a "inland links style" course with no housing. I find it plays pretty forgiving. All grass range and practice area, nice putting green.
Lone Tree - Routed through real estate, relatively forgiving due to a large degree of bowl that moves balls back towards the grass. All grass range, not sure about the chipping area.
Trilogy Power Ranch - Higher end real estate routed course, nice all grass practice facility and range, have only played here once but it was nice

Avoid San Marcos. It is the oldest course i the east valley but their conditions have been utterly terrible.

There are a number of Over 55 community courses in the area as well Sunbird, Ironwood, Springfield. I believe they are all executive type length, but I have no experience with their practice facilities.

If you have ready access to a vehicle your supply of courses outside of Chandler is quite amazing.
Within 40 minutes you can play all manner of different types, prices and conditioning levels of courses.
In my experience every course will have a grass range, practice facilities such as chipping and bunkers vary.

Thanx a lot man. The grass range would be for practice only in the mornings so I prefer something close. I don't mind driving if the course is exceptional.

Pretty much every golf course in PHX has a grass driving range. Chandler is a big area, let us know the approx major cross streets and we can recommend something close by.

The greater PHX area has more than 200 courses to choose from, most are average, a few are good and a handful are really good. Can't say any of the really good ones are in Chandler however. Recommendations would depend on your taste and motivations. This time of year the best in town can be played for very reasonable prices.

Ocotillo, I can't recommend however. It is a soulless cookie cutter course with lots of lakes and palm trees and routed through a real estate development. Virtually indestinguishable from any Florida course minus the alligators and insects.

If you had one course to play with no budget constraint, I would recommend We-Ko-Pa Saguaro.

Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever play san Marcos. Ever!!!! It would be a sick track if they actually mowed it. They mow the greens with push mowers....

Ocotillo is okay. Trilogy at power ranch is really good. You can also run o er to Tempe and play asu karsten or go to Scottsdale and pay a bit extra to play some really great courses. If you want to make a trip to the west valley an hour away is The Raven at Verrado. My favorite course around town and is always amazing. Tough too.

Remember though, stay the hell away from san marcos

I would suggest Whirlwind, which is also a troon course but IMP better than Ocotillo. thats not too far from Chandler. Also check out Lone Tree.

Yes, Whirlwind. Great practice facility, two pretty good courses. 10 minutes away.

And you know there is a Golfsmith at I-10 & Ray ?

This is my first time in AZ But looking at the map its pretty close to where i will be staying

Forget Golfsmith, the PGA Superstore is a WHOLE LOT better.

Wow, it was 60 last summer. Unfortunately, they have NO discount programs other than the WeKoPass/OB Sports card. If you can talk a local that has a card to join you for a round, you can get the resident rate ~$45.
