Interstate 80 from New York City to Toledo, OH

I'm heading out Labor Day weekend to Tiffin, OH to watch a football game. I would love to break up the trip with a round of golf. It doesn't have to be exactly in the center- it just has to be a great course.

 

Any can't miss courses for the way out and the way back, and around Tiffin, OH for before the game?

I only know around the Poconos -- a lot of fun courses there if you like hills. I always enjoyed Mountain Manor, they have 27 holes now (down from 36) and they have some mountain goat holes and some funky, plateau greens.

You have a boatload of choices. Don't know about in the Tiffin area. Sort of rural.

#11. Boulder Creek (exit 193 on the Ohio Turnpike and very near the exit)
Depends on how much a detour off 80 you are willing to take. Stay on 80 to 76 and follow US 224 to Tiffin while going through Akron there are many, many courses.
I drive 76 / 224 over to Findlay serveral times a year and it is an easy drive.

At the Ohio/PA border fairly close to 80 is Avalon Lakes. Nice place. Little pricey.

Windmill Lakes (home course for Kent State Universities golf team.)
Seven Hills
Turkeyfoot Lake
Raintree
No problem taking a guest to any of them.

Better to come watch your team play Tiffin than Mount Union. Teams have been struggling to win at Mount Union for several years.

Have your pro setup a tee time at Inverness in Toledo. Spectacular, old course with so much history. Take a caddie. It is truly a day you will remember! Home to Byron Nelson back in the day when all the pro's worked throughout the midwest and east coast during the summer when they were not in tour events.

Here's a suggestion, smack dab in the middle of your trip, [color=#3D3D3D][left][background=rgb(241, 250, 252)]Wanango CC, a Donald Ross, Tom Bendelow, and Tillinghast design from th early 1920's, that's like Dye, Fazio and Nicklaus today. It's a bit off I-80 maybe 30 minutes between Oil City and Franklin on the north side of the Allegheny River, surrounded by trees and a completely natural setting. Should be in great shape in the Fall, and in a beautiful setting. [/background][/left][/color]
