They are good vintage irons from around 1960. I don't have any reference source with me to be exact. But the
F/C 4000 stood for Flame Ceramic. It was a process whereby a blace ceramic surface was applise to the clubface. supposedly, it was appplied to at 4000 degrees.
The diamond back is a popular muscle-back design. I think a very few years ago, MacGregor made some in limited edition and Greg Norman used them in the British Open

I am not sure that your hypothesis is correct regarding the ceramic face being applied @4000 degrees.

If the forgings are stainless steel they would melt at that temperature. The only compound in stainless that will hold up at 4000 degrees is Molybdenum (Mn) at 4748 degrees melting point and that compound is only approximately 15% of basic stainless. Carbon steel melts at 2500 degrees and any other compound involved is no better.

My theory would be something like CF (Cold Forged) @ 4000 psi.

But, that is just my thoughts.

Toney Penna got the idea for flame ceramic coating at I'll inst of technology in Chicago. The process was used at that time for coating the jet engines which were being installed on airliners. The coating was installed as IRONMASTERS describes. It was sprayed on in some fashion. He was surprised when the USGA approved the clubs. When new they were like having a very gritty sandpaper face. If you rubbed the club on your face, it would leave abrasions. Unfortunately, the substance chipped off from the iron heads banging against each other.

I am not aware of a process to fix the chips
