UPDATED: PICS..Vix02's Golo Winter Project 2012

Recommended Posts

Greets,

I've stripped down my Golo S and it's awaiting a paint job. I'm a huge Boston Bruins fan so I'm going with the Black\Yellow\White theme. I currently have a U.S Open 'Smiley' Headcover and Scotty Custom midsize yellow\black grip coming from the 'bay. I also have a crap load of Tamiya paints coming from the 'bay aswell.

Here's my question(s)

What's the best way to have the gloss yellow REALLY stick out on a Golo? The color is X-24 (glossy yellow ). I was thinking of using a white finish, let dry then apply the gloss overtop. I also order some X-8 (yellow) along with X-22 ( clear ) thinking that I could use that yellow and apply clear after to give it a glossy look.

thanks in advance

Be sure to post some pictures. I'd like to try this with the Odyssey I got from you. Change out the orange to red. Does the acetone hurt the finish of the putter when you are removing the existing paint?

I'd be carefully with the 'crown' of the putter...not sure if acetone would take the white off the alignment balls. Otherwise, you can strip the face and sole with no worries.

First, I will second the request to show pics as you go. We are a very visual crowd and LOVE to see the work that is taking place. A ton of guys here are very up for doing their own simple work and when someone gives it a shot, we can all learn from how their process turns out.

The X-22 is not the hot ticket if you are trying for a very bright yellow. The exposed SS base on the dots will help it be decently bright, but I don't see it as a "POP" off of the putter. If you do a white base it will brighten it, but also adds a little work and potential for a slip and forced re-do.

The X-8 is a good, solid, opaque yellow that ought to pop pretty well off of that putter. You have a black base putter still, correct? That fact will definitely help the yellow show up and give it some pop, on its own.

Paint fill is a great way to personalize your putter without doing permanent damage and I'd be there will be some guys here, this morning that will have a lot more info than I have put out. Good luck and remember, PICTURES!

Here is a quick pic or two of a few that have turned out pretty decent.

I love to share my work and am NOT looking for any new projects. Just want to give you guys a visual or two that will help the new do-it-yourself'ers a little bit.

On this Sonoma, you may be able to see that the orange, even on the third fill, still bubbled just the slightest amount. Tips are always welcomed, LOL.

White is not for everyone and has sort of "run its course", but it sure lets the Tamiya Translucent Red shine, eh?

This one is to show how a dark base putter can really make the lighter paint fill pop a little more than it might against the silver.

Please, not to be difficult or a jerk, but I love being part of the WRX community and am not looking for projects that guys want to ship off and have done, right now. I show these pictures just to give you some ideas and a few looks at what different combos look like. Feel free to save the pix and use them in any way, but my PM box is full and I am not looking to clear it out and start checking it every day. I just love being able to share some of my work and help anyone that is doing their own work, just a bit, if possible.

Sincerely,

LaMont in AZ

Thanks for the response. Yes, it still has it's black finish. I really love that sea mist finish. That is pretty awesome. I have all winter to play wit it and if I can't get it right.....I'll send it your way. Deal?

I've seen the X-24 on the SS bombs and it's not as bright as I'd like it. I think I'll try doing a white base, take my time and see how that looks. Will adding 'Clear' make a 'flatter' color glossy?

I've been trying to do the same exact thing as I'm a steelers / pens fan. Here's an idea how it will look with the clear yellow.

Hope the pic works. First attempt using iPhone to post pics. The yellow doesnt pop as much as id like. thinking i may do a white base also. If u put on a second coat, the yellow actually starts to look a little orange. It's definetly a trial and error type project.

Thanks browne11, I think I want the yellow to be a little stronger too. My paints will come in tomorrow. I'll get some pics up from start to finish.

Yes, I think it's going to trial and error all winter.. LOL

Here's an update :

Did some testing with colors and combo's. Couldn't get any translucent paint to work with my 'theme'. I think it looks pretty good. I tried putting a base coat of white and some X24 yellow. all it did was turn Orange on me.

I still need to put on some clear in a few places. The bombs actually look sweet in person. nice shine with a coat of clear
