NIke Ignite Irons

My son is 11 and currently using Callaway Little Berthas. He is a good player and has developed some serious gaps due to missing irons. His set only consists of 4,6,8,W,SW. I saw some Nike Ignite irons 3H-PW at a local Edwin Watts. Has anyone tried these? I am a little reluctant since they come with steel shafts though they say Junior steel. Thanks for the feedback.

what is his typical score with his callaways now?

His score doesn't reflect his ball striking ability because his putting keeps his scores high. Also, the course he primarily plays is a PAR 63. But, I play to a 10 and when we play to keep it close I'll give him 9 shots.

Score isn't important unless I was buying him blades or player's irons. At his age his score can range anywhere from 85-105 on a PAR 72 because of baseball season (he has difficulty with his swing because of batting), the type of course, what tees he is playing. Why do you keep asking about score? That tells you absolutely nothing.

ok, so he seems like a pretty good golfer then. At his age i had the same thing, baseball messed up my golfswing, and i gave up baseball. Since you said he has good ball-striking, they probably would be a good choice. The ignite irons would help his distance gap problem, so if i were you, i'd let him try them out, and see what he thinks.

Personally, i have tried them once, and they arent that bad of irons. The sole was a bit too wide for me, but they were easy to hit, and pretty accurate.

hes playing baseball now...screw the golf clubs...get him to stand outside for 4 hours a day when you would be golfing and throw to you with his left hand...build him to be a left handed pitcher.

 

If he just gets drafted to the majors hes almost guaranteed to make one million dollars.

I'm not sure what the "score" talk is all about because that really has nothing to do with your iron choice. Just get him to try them out and try to have them somewhat fitted (not cut too much because hes obviously gonna grow a lot and you don't want to be dishing out $300 every year) but cut enough so they aren't noticeable too long for him. The 3-PW will for sure bring his distance gap close together and help him lower his score and play more consistently.

 

My friend at school plays the Ignite irons and to my knowledge loves them. He said they are very forgiving and pretty solid for the price.
