Charlie Beljan – 203 (-13)

Posted a 1-under 71 today after only sleeping for an hour in a local hospital. After his round yesterday, he was taken immediately to the hospital where he underwent a variety of tests.

Seeking to become the fourth rookie to win on the 2012 PGA TOUR (John Huh, Ted Potter, Jr., Jonas Blixt) in his 22nd career start. This marks the first time he’s been in this position through 54 holes of a PGA TOUR event. He was T3 after three rounds at The Greenbrier Classic earlier this year and finished T3, his best performance on TOUR to date.

Comes into this week ranked No. 139 on the money list ($527,538) and will move into the top-125 with any top-10 finish this week.

Charlie Wi – 205 (-11)

Is searching for this first PGA TOUR victory tomorrow in his 184th career start on the circuit. Has finished second five times on TOUR, most recently earlier this year at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

In addition to runner-up finish to Phil Mickelson this year at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, was T3 at The Greenbrier Classic and T4 at the Valero Texas Open.

Making his fifth appearance in the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic this week and best career-finish in this event came last year when he was T28 at Disney.

Brian Gay – 205 (-11)

Looking to win for the fourth time on the PGA TOUR tomorrow and claim his first title since the 2009 FedEx St. Jude Classic (95 events)

Is making his 13th appearance in the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic this week and best finish to date is a T12 in 2010.

Has two top-10 finishes this year – T4/Valero Texas Open, T6/Sony Open in Hawaii.

Josh Teater – 205 (-11)

Is searching for his first PGA TOUR title tomorrow in his 93rd career start. Best career finish on the PGA TOUR to date is a T3 at the 2010 Turning Stone Resort Championship.

Best finish thus far in 2012 is a T4 at the RBC Canadian Open.

Won the 2009 Utah Championship on the Web.com Tour.

Is making just his second appearance in the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, missing the cut in 2010.

Miscellaneous Notes

Charlie Beljan’s 54-hole score of 13-under 203 is the highest three-round total to lead this event since 2009 when four players were tied at that number.

Third-round leaders/co-leaders have won 21 times in the 41-year history of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic. However, since 2004, just one 54-hole leader/co-leader has gone on to capture the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic title. The following chart details the last eight years after three rounds:

On the 2012 PGA TOUR, 54-hole leaders have won 15 of the 43 stroke-play events. Ryan Moore was the last to do so at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Here are the 2012 final-round scoring averages of the top-four players on the leaderboard: Charlie Beljan (69.86/13th), Brian Gay (70.40/30th), Josh Teater (70.65/56th), Charlie Wi (71.88/146th)

Charlie Beljan, Charlie Wi and Josh Teater are all looking for their first PGA TOUR career victories. Here’s a list of the players who made the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic their first PGA TOUR titles:

Mac McLendon (1974) Hal Sutton (1982)

Woody Blackburn (1976) Bob Lohr (1988)

Bill Kratzert (1976) Jeff Maggert (1993)

Wayne Levi (1978) Brad Bryant (1995)

Bob Mann (1978) Bob Burns (2002)

George Burns (1979) Ryan Palmer (2004)

David Edwards (1980) Lucas Glover (2005)

Vance Heafner (1981) Robert Garrigus (2010)

Mike Holland (1981)

Eight players won the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic the first time they played in this event – Jack Nicklaus (1971), Woody Blackburn (1976), Bill Kratzert (1976), Hal Sutton (1982), Tiger Woods (1996), David Duval (1997), Jose Coceres (2001), Ryan Palmer (2004)

At last year’s Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, Luke Donald was T14 after three rounds and trailed co-leaders Justin Leonard and Kevin Chappell by five strokes. He carded a final-round 64 to win by two and the victory also propelled him past Webb Simpson to claim the 2012 PGA TOUR money title. It marked the second straight year that a player came from five shots back to win this event and his T14 position was the furthest back anyone has come to win in tournament history.
