Which smartphone golf app do you use?

ninja caddie. I never even come close to using more than about 20% of my phone battery. It gives front, middle, and back of green, let's you track the distance of your shot (banishes your illusions about how far you hit your drives, LOL). And you can easily map your own course and any special spots you want to track (i.e., bunkers, front and back of water hazards, etc.) on their very easy to use website.

Oh, and did I mention that it is free.

Of course just like every other phone app it is not really legal because smartphones have intrinsic capabilities that, even if not used, makes using a distance measuring app on the phone illegal.

[/quote]Whether or not one finds the satellite photos difficult to see probably depends on the phone. I've used Samsung Android phones (first Fascinate, then Droid Charge, now the Note 2) and their Super AMOLED screens are very visible even in bright sunlight. My biggest problem with SkyDroid is that the holes are always shown with north "up" in the manner of Google Maps; I'd like to be able to show the hole with up being the direction of my next shot.

Golfshot on my Samsung Galaxy Note. Nice BIG display. Only uses 35% of battery if I turn wifi off first.

Also had it on my Iphone before I switched to the Note.

amoled screens are terrible in sunlight,the newer lcd screens are very good in sunlight,I have a Note2 also

A friends of mine suggested me to try "Golf GameBook". I've use it now a month and have to say it's pretty good. Anyone else tried that app?

Seems like it's simple-to-use mobile scorecard, and the beauty is that after the registration you can add your friends (Facebook style) and after that I'm able to follow their rounds live from my smart phone via that app. Also there's live leaderboards. Would be nice to play tournament with 40+ people and follow that leaderboard in real-time.

I'm a Golfshot guy on my iPhone. Been using it since it came out a few years ago. Think I paid $30 at the time, but there are many more apps available now that could be better & cheaper. I've been very satisfied with Golfshot, so I haven't explored other apps. Been very happy with distance accuracy, hole overview (satellite imagery) and stats tracking. The unfortunate thing is the USGA/R&A's rules on Distance Measuring Devices (DMD) and how it relates to smartphones. Basically, ya can't use a smartphone as a DMD unless you can remove the weather and compass apps (these are embedded in the iPhone) and the app is conforming (i.e. only measures distance). I do play in a number of local/regional amateur events, so I've been going without a DMD in those cases. Thought I might invest in a laser, but picked up a Callaway Upro MX+ for cheap to use anytime I tee it up.

The thought of spending $300+ on a conforming DMD is another example of the USGA/R&A being out of touch with modern society. All of their decisions on other electronic devices (cell phones, computers, PDAs, radios, etc) prohibit use based on intent. In other words, you can use any of these devices on the course as long as you aren't gaining any advantage. Smartphone is prohibited based on the mere presence of certain apps, not on the intended use of the device. Ridiculous.
