Myrtle Help

It's my turn to plan the golf trip
Ok the title says it all. It's my turn to plan the annual golf outing for 8 guys here in Ohio. Last year it was Pinehurst in March. This year will be Myrtle in late April. What booking service is the best to use? More importantly who should I stay clear of?

I only need tee times and lodging. Preferably close to some night life as well.

Any other suggestions would really help. Thanks.

If you are into playing 36 a day, I would recomend booking one 18 hole round and look for a replay. Try to book your 1st course at a multi course complex, ex. The Legends, Wing Foot, Barefoot Landing. You will find that the replay fee is about 1/2 to 2/3 of a booked time. We have been staying at Pawley Island the last few years, not much traffic, good food and great courses. Let the resort book your tee times, just explain what you are looking for and be specific about the courses.Have a great time.

I went in October with a big group that goes twice a year. They always stay at the Compass Cove Oceanfront resort. It's right on the beach, on the South end not far from the airport. I was impressed with the place, I roomed with a couple friends and they put us in a 3 bedroom "penthouse" condo on the top floor. Others that only had 2 got deluxe rooms. All that I saw were nice. They have their own restaraunt that's open only for breakfast, which is included with the package. All the tee times were booked through the resort and the course selection was pretty good but then you can't really go too wrong in MB. I think for 5 days, 5 nights it cost about $325 per person. Give them a look:

I've heard the Legends resort is also good. I've played the courses but never stayed there.

If ya need help picking courses I'll give ya an excellent list. I go to Myrtle every February, April, and summer. I love it down there. Depending on how much your willing to spend and how far you'll travel you can play some excellent courses down there. I'd recommend playing any of these if given the chance: Rivers Edge, Tidewater, True Blue, Caledonia, Myrtle Beach National North, Oyster Bay, The Dunes, Heritage, Glen Dornoch, Heather Glen, Thistle, Tradition, The Barefoot Courses.

As for where to stay, I would highly recommend checking out the Long Bay resort. It's as reasonable as anywhere down there, nearby to just about everything, and an excellent hotel.

Depending on how risky your willing to get, there are a few places you can go between a week and the day before you want the tee time that give you the best deals. Score Tee Times of M.B. is one. With a large party I might not recommend taking the chance, but while your down there you may want to check it out just to see what sort of deal you can get.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm taking in the Cincinnati Golf Show this weekend so I'm sure I'll bring home 40 lbs of brochures. But I may just go straight to the resorts and see what they can do for me.

As far as rerounds go is it easier to book it upfront or just take our chances after the first 18?

We just booked a trip to Myrtle for April 1 to the 7th. Staying at 2 bedroom townhome at Legends Resort. Playing 5 rounds, Heathlands, Mooreland, Oyster Bay and Heritage Club. Cost is $650. We opted for the no breakfast plan due to the kitchen but you can add breakfast and range balls for another $100. $650 included 6 nights and 5 rounds of golf with cart.

As far as nightlife goes, usually a sausage fest...what do you expect for a town full of male golfers..haha

We have also stayed at the Carribean Resort and played some of the Myrtle Beach national course packages... Lions Paw, Myrtle Beach national North and West, brunswick etc.

I don't post much but I can help here as well. We go down every February (8th year this year!) for 5 days and play 8 rounds. If you do 36 in a day you MUST play a place that has multiple courses. Some reccomendations:

The Legends

MBN - (play Kings North. the other two are pick 'ems)

Barefoot - (Love and Norman preferred)

Ocean Ridge Plantation (right across the NC border) Decent courses and real easy 36 in a day.

Must plays:

Caledonia

True Blue

Rivers Edge (in NC. Palmer signature course. 9th hole is geat)

Long Bay Club (Nicklaus course)

Grande Dunes

We have stayed at the Sands Beach Club and we get this package for around $525 per guy w/ breakfast. Accomodations are good for 4 smelly guys for a week :)

This year we are trying the just built Sea Island Inn. Anyone been there yet?

I go down to MB every year. I've booked through Golfdesk. Great prices and service.

I'll second that, I've used GolfDesk this past summer for my bachelor party and it worked out great. We played Caledonia, TPC, Arrowhead, Fazio Barefoot, and World Tour, plus 4 nights in a 3 bedroom apartment for $475 apiece.

We go down every 2 years and plan on going this may. We always stay about 20 min from the airport. This place is really great and right on the beach with a great buffet which is included in the package.

Its right in the middle of MB and we really love it. They have condos accross the street, which we always stay at with a pool and a hot tub. The condos are really great. Typical 70 style that need updating, but we dont' care, we just sleep there. they are clean and the location is awesome. We don't even consider staying anywhere else, its that good. It centrally located, so if you want to go to the Gentlemans' clubs, thats 10 min away, and all the great restaunts are also 10-15 min away. I highly recommend it. They will also arrange golf packages.

I'd highly recommend listening to the gentleman that mentioned True Blue, Caledonia, River's Edge, Barefoot, Long Bay, ect. Those are the exact courses on our list and they are the best down there.
