My-Day... does it work?

Picked up a My Day -ping.. BECU putter ! at 27 usd. looks like the insipred by Brad Faxon putter.

Been obsessed with the Toe Up putter and alas I found this lying for 100 years in this 2nd hand shop without anybody wanting it. Love BECU feel, very crisp, yet soft.. The reason i wanted a Toe up putter is because I believe that a shoulder stroke gate putter is simply putting stsb on an inclined plane. and a toe up putter simply accomplish one thing , makes a "gate stroke" looks like a square stroke.... and its actually a Mini form of the Detour putter.

Will try it in a few weeks see if it really works . But meanwhile.. How does my theory go?

Actually the Faxon Putter was Inspired by the My Day. A Putter that's been around since the 70's

The Material Is Manganese Bronze not BeCu.

Great Putter too !!

I was thinking that my day actually helps 2 things visually

1. create an illusion that the putter stay square even if you got an arc stroke

2. The fanning motion Arc look of the tail. its not square look from the top instead its more angled fan Open from the top.

One more thing which i absolutely thrilled. the face height looks thinner than the newport.

I am not sure its maganese bronze or Becu... but its definely sounds brighter than the maganese bronze anser models than usual but still soft. and it aged Blacker than the other ping putters there... anyway will post up with pics if anyone is interested.

So you are mentioning the difference of width size of the toe from the heel and not the higher toe/"toe up" look?

I don't remember my short experience with a myday, but theoretically having more mass/weight towards the toe would increase the toe hang and would be more suited for a gated stroke.

Perhaps some guys can compare the mayday to the zing which IIRC are similar shapes but with the myday have the bigger toe if there are any differences in toe hang. Neck style being the same of course.

yub .. both xxio toe up + thicker toe and thiner heel( but to create the illusion of gated path)

I think its more toe hang.

Hayam,

I can't understand how it would create an illusion to help a gated stroke. I would think the added width would encourage a gated stroke even more. Just like comparing a JAT Proto to a DelMar 3.5/Inspired by SG. The JAT has a pronounced width area towards the toe which does promote a more gated stroke just by looking.

I'm borrowing a Laguna tomorrow to compare toe hang to my ZingF. I don't know if they have the same necks though.

I would love to hear more about your theory though.

When a putter is toe up , and putting using ARC( SBST on inclined plane). The putter will look Square in square through more or "open" look more. This feature is also in Detour, circa, softail. Thus its easier for us to be reminded we are putting sbst on an inclined plane.

The fatter toe and thinner heel is the same concept of detour.. Take the putter back in that in -in direction, that is square" to the trailing edge. Thus the shape of the arc. instead of the arrow, My-day uses the thicker toe , thinner heel ( looking from above the putter).

Err can you imagine ?

It is Manganese Bronze. They never made a Copper MyDay. Thanks.

I'm getting confused. Let us start again. You want a gated stroke to look like a square stroke (SBST) to the one putting I presume, by altering the toe thickness of the putter?

I'm trying to clarify toe thickness vs toe height. Toe height is more prevalently seen from face on while toe thickness is prevalently seen from address. Are we clear on that. The My day has more toe thickness than the Zing despite being similar head shapes.

The toe up confuses me even more.

Yes it is present in the putters you mentioned. I'm no longer 100% but I'm pretty sure it is there for "lie angle purposes". Most hack putters set up with the toe up (to flat, low hands, etc.) the higher toe creates an optical illusion and lets them set the putter on the correct lie angle thereby enlarging the sweetspot. This can be put on any putter not just putters for a SBST or just for a gated stroke. So it should be irrelevant.

Just want to be sure about your premise before I get into a heavy discussion about SBST, the detour's practicality as an alignment aid or practicality in helping a arc stroke.

I do agree that SBST is an arc on an inclined plane because every single putter is on an inclined plane, but it is not the "gated stroke" that is referred to, if it were then there would be no differences in any putting strokes.

I'm not SC, Karsten, Mills, Bett, Byron, etc so maybe you could enlighten me somemore.

BTW the Circas, Mills that you mentioned depending on the neck can encourage different levels of arc/gate.

Not really an expert on this area.

but i rock my chest along the spine , low point at center,so my stroke is more or less symetrical.

try putting like that using a detour, or circa... the putter doesnt open or close as much and it looks much more square in and through with toe up... hard to explain unless you find something similar to try it.

Not talking about low hands toe up, nor talking about arm stroke arc putting. I am talking visual.

I think thats why the detour is made Toe up that way.

I think your toe up and my toe up are different.

Toe up for me is if your looking at a putter face on, the toe is noticeably higher than the heel. It actually creates an illusion of a flatter lie angle.

Maybe I will go try a Detour more. I didn't like it enough visually to give it a true test. I have tried different Circas and they don't promote all the same stroke.

That looks like an old 'paddle' grip. I'm pretty sure they were outlawed quite a few years ago, so I doubt you'd still find one around.

But back to the My-Day, I've still got one and I love it. Only reason it's not in my bag is because of the new Scotty I bought recently. :)

Thanks for the reply Damo... pity its outlawed.. I love the grip.. anyway Not a pro so i gonna play it

Hey !! I oil caned it to seal off the corrosion ... using some very used and old cooking oil ... DIY ... not neat but looks good in person though...

I didn't think it would affect the sound but it did. The sound became less thinggg and more balata after the oil caned. Love this putter .. a touch better in distance control than my newport...
