Is eternal happiness a possibility?

What's happened to me?
Hey Everyone:

It's really odd. Now I'm not too sure if it was a concussion I received but I think my golf equipment mentality has evolved. When I go into a golf retail store nothing jumps out at me saying "Alex...buy meeeee". I go onto Ebay and even though I browse the golf equipment I find that I get bored real fast. Even though I do want a new fairway wood I feel that I don't need it. It's gotten to the point that I look more at bowling stuff (winter past time I started) than golf. Is it possible that I have reached total equipment happiness??

I'm scared and feel lonely.

Alex

I guess that its possible, even though i say that i never will buy a club for a few months... whenever i get some money, it is spent on golf clubs... lol i may buy a new mizzy hybrid and hibore fairway this year... I DONT KNOW!! but if you are confident in your equipment, thats a good thing! :)

I don't see the problem. You save tons of money and play better because you're not getting used to new equipment all the time. A lot of touring pros play the same irons and wedges forever; Zach Johnson played 990's until last year, Tim Herron plays Eye 2's and David Toms played rebadged 588 irons and Quadpro Fw's all through last year. Lots of guys still play Eye 2 wedges. There are a bunch of other examples that escape me at the moment.

Point being, with the exception of the driver you're not giving up anything. You may want to fiddle with 460cc heads a bit (try components- any shaft you want and cheaper, or used OEM) to see if they are for you. If not, keep hitting that K. :)

It isn't that I don't want to buy anything. I think it is the fact that I can walk around there and I don't really "need" anything. I would like a new putter, but I am not dropping top dollar on a Cameron off the shelf, but I can't really do anything else with the credit. I am looking for a Newport 2 Mid-Slant or a Mil-Spec. At some point, I am going to have to bite the bullet though.

Funny you mention that, I just won a Newport Mid Slant on eBay 15 minutes ago. LOL

I'm one sick club ho!!! LOL

I would say admitting your sickness is half the battle, but after years of therapy, I have determined there is no cure. :)

Same here. I go on eBay and wander around like I'm lost.

I searched around like crazy to find the clubs I have. I found them and that's it. Same with headcovers, tees, bags, etc. FINDING them was the fun part.

Plus, different sports/interests compete with one another in your brain. Ever known any fishermen that are golfers too? They go through stages where playing golf is the last thing on earth they would do on a Sunday AM. They look at the newest boats, or tackle. Not golf clubs. Then, out of the blue they come in and talk about how they played and how they can't wait to get out again.

I, like you, turned the corner of what I NEED vs. what I WANT. I have everything I need, so I'm working on my game. Maybe I'll actually play a little more this year with the savings.

Buy a new hat, and call me in the morning. Cheers.

You all need therapy, any golf ho who can resist an impulse purchase is obviously suffering acute withdrawal symptons!

I am really happy with my bag at the moment, am even beginning to play well again, but since discovering high end JDM equipment my ho'ing has reached new levels of madness, I am convinced that it is a disease and that it is completely incurable, regular fixes are required to satisfy the craving and the cost just keeps growing, example, my new driver/shaft combo cost $700!, now I want a 3 wood and utility with the same shafts - OH dear!!!!

Yes it is a possibility. I am kinda experiencing it myself. I experimented around with different clubs but I'm starting to come back to what has worked for me in the past and I'm playing better. Naturally, there some things I buy, but I've come to the conclusion not to step away from the basics.

Driver - Titleist 917D2 8.5
3 wood - Titleist 917F2 15
Hybrids - Titleist 915Hd 20
Irons - Titleist 716MB 4-9
Wedges - Titleist SM6 48/52/56/62
Putter - Scotty Studio Select Newport 2
