So little curios..how many guys who post in this section are wanting to get more distance from there drivers? Or want to be Long Drivers as the Section is called......Just wondering cause i only see threads about pulling shafts or finding a shaft to get more control and going shorter or what not.......I thought this was here to HELP GET distance out of your drivers and for long drive questions?

I certainly wasn't more or of my driver. I'm a PGA pro in washington and want something that I can bomb on our open courses. I have a three wood that I can hit 280-290 if it's tight, so my driver I want to be able to unleash on. Any suggestions. Currently have an R11 with Aldila RIP Beta 70x at 45”, which is the longest driver I have ever hit (320-340 average).

I just wish more people made LH heads around 7.0*. Im not even talking name brands. I've played Bang, SMT, and now currently Adams. I've been out of the competition side of Long Drive for about 7 years now but still love to hit it deep on the course. There are a few heads I'd like to try but spending $300 to demo something just isn't worth it.

Vince...I game an adams 9064ld and was hitting for a cobra rep today on trackman.....had a ballspeed of 180.6 mph avg......had a few smash factors that read out @1.51 and 1.53. I thought that readings this high weren't possible? He asked if my driver is legal. As far as I can remember it was approved for play in the usga conforming driver list.....so whats the deal?

Have you checked the face to see if it was flat? Remember that though a head passes for USGA Conforming BRAND NEW....its always going to be LEGAL...except on the LDA side....what the LDA has done was take that ruling from the USGA, 4-1B...bbut put his spin on it saying, not only does it have to be USGA Conforming brand new, but it has to STAY LEGAL throughout the life of it....Which...is pretty dumb....Why? Heres why:

You take a head, at any loft really, tesed new out of plastic its LEGAL....but..the more you hit it what happends, metal becomes maluable...at any speed it does. EVERY HEAD DOES. So...since USGA is testing CT(Characteristic Timing) of the FACE instead of COR of the body, its all about the face. How long a metal Sphere dropped from three placements on a pendulum stays on the face avgeraging from those three placements. CT of .257 is the legel limit. NOW this doesnt mean, the HIGHER the number, or, the LONGER a ball stays on the face it becomes hotter. It also goes to say the lower the number the better it is either. You want the middle ground. If you have a face that is giving too much, you lose that force, that pop, making inertia happe at impact to its fullest pop!! Now how do you KNOW when its this? You check the face, is it flat? Yes? Than there you go...A face flattening is a good sign your face is dead. ADAMS are KNOWN for flattening so fast, especially those 64's, thats why JS only hit them once....and every time he was at worlds he had the ADAMS trailor there JUST FOR HIM to swap out heads. He take up 3-4 clubs, goes and hands them to trailor, he brings back all new heads for each round...it is what it is...

So there are two different deals going on here for legality, 1) USGA Ruling 4-1B says its deemed LEGAL for all life, 2) LDA says once its over CT its ILLEGAL....

You take one head from each loft and send it in to get tested, comes back, its good....all heads have to be LEGAL from EACH BATCH AFTER......if they are not, USGA can take a head off rack and test it, if its ILLEGAL off rack, they have the ability to pull it off and take them off list.

Well crap!!!! Great info......I bet mine is toast!!! Its gotta be.....not cracked but instead very hot. I hit balls today on TM and my wierdest reading was a 119 ss and 185 bs...SF came out at 1.56. Club feels like Im hitting a glob of butter on contact. Its soooo good...hahaha. how do I check it for flatness??? Its sitting at 6.1* and a degree open.....flat to most people's eyes anyway. If I do the same thing to a regular retail head....like a 913d3.....can I send it back and ask for warranty if I flatten the face beyond legality? I have no intention of competing in LD..but I do play quite a few tnmts where they are pretty serious about usga ruling... including nat. Qualifiers like the us amateur and us.open.....also considering q school

Again though it feels that way and flat does not mean its "HOT" if its a higher CT number. Just means it gives more...take it like this, you get more power when you punch someone and they stand still and barely move, or you punch someone and they move back when you punch them? You can go a shop and have them check it or they make tool for it, Buldge and Rolls hould be like a 10x10 or 11x11 something like that. Adams heads go FAST and the ones we got of theirs went in about 30 hits and was caved in or 14x14 B&R...which is BAD.....Most comapanies do not warrantly flattened heads cause its all on how the golfer is hitting them. LD speeds are not meant for those clubs, and the ADAMS warranty is pretty odd also. I think its warrentied up till 50 balls or something like that....IDK....If youa re wanting to do Q school or Am stuff, you can hit it til it shows a crack...its LEGAL. But in LDA stuff its gotta be LEGAL all the time...they only test heads are worlds also...

TOMMY BOY lol ya man hes a beast still.....Only way to get there is train for speed....not worry about where it goes but train for speed if thts what your looking for. Swing fast..if you think you are swinging fast than swing faster...gotta keep working those fast twitch muscles and getting your body and swing in tune with speed to keep power there.
