Who would be skilled club fitters in the Philadelphia area?

I'm sure I am too late with a response, and my apologies for not having spent any time on this sub forum for obviously a very long time such that I missed your question to me. But in case you ever need the recommendation, closest to Philadelphia who is REAL GOOD in fitting is Ron Tonnessen in Pottstown. His contact info is:

Hey Tom love your books!! im seriously. keen to have a real go at building professionally. I am in New Zealand and was wondering if you have a school of some sort I can attend? I will be I'm the u.s July next year and was hoping that I maybe able to fit something while over there? If not can you recommend anything that could help me get into this trade?

While I taught something like 200 different clubmaking and fitting schools from 1980 to 2001, when I started our company, we just never set up a suitable classroom facility in which to offer schools at our company. Keep in mind that there are basically two different types of schools offered - one for clubMAKING to teach the workbench skills of repair and assembly. the other for clubFITTING to try to teach the elements of analyzing golfers to know what fitting specs they need.

Among all the clubMAKING schools, most all of them are good and will teach you what you need to know in a week of instruction. Maltby and Mitchell probably being the ones I would recommend for this.

Now as to clubFITTING schools, this is where the quality drops off substantially. And in all fairness, it's not possible to teach fitting in a week to get anyone to the point they then could take off and launch a successful fitting business. But it can get you started, and from there, you need to acquire the rest of the knowledge and for sure the experience of fitting golfers on your own. So of those who offer fitting schools, I would say the best of what's there would be the Mitchell school.

Thanks Tom that's really good to know I will look into that.. I have built several sets and have gained a bit of experience but when people approach me to build they ask what qualifications I have.. So really I am looking for a week long club building school like you said to improve my work bench knowledge and also to get a ' piece of paper' to day a have attended a school. Thanks for you help Tom much appreciated and keep up the good work!!
