Newport Select Silver Mist Series

Recommended Posts

I did a silver mist finish with the same paint fill on a Scotty Cameron Select Newport, Newport 1.5 and Newport 2.

I did the 1.5 first and liked it so much that I decided to do the other Newports. I'm not a big fan of the standard paint fill on the Select Newports because I don't think the translucent red contrast very well with the black PVD finish... in my worthless opinion anyways.

What route did you choose DIY bead/glass blasting or send it to the CS. They look nice and clean nice job!

Sandblasted the PVD finish off, applied a Silver Mist polymer coating and did the paint fill

What's the spec on the polymer? Is there a smell after the fact? And why add something instead of leaving similar bead blast finish? I'm making a list of in house finish possibilities so my eyes are always open!

There's no smell on the finish. The polymer adds durability and color options. I have black, white, and the silver mist color I used here. There are several more colors available as well.

Also, if you leave if blasted and unfinished, l've read that there is a slight chance that it could be exposed to oxidation and could possibly develop some rust. I've never experienced it and I'm not sure if its true, but I have read that before.

Hey guys
Ive been reading all of the posts for glass bead blasting the scottys and finally decided to take the plunge. At first I was a little weary of taking to much pvd off but to my surprise i was barely taking anything off after about 20 minutes of doing it on the sole the best I have is like a gunmetal grey. I used 80 grit glass beads and a sandblasting gun from harbour freight. Put the compressor on 85 psi and let it rip but never got the results. If you all could give me any insight it would be greatly appreciated!

I used aluminum oxide as the blasting medium. The pvd finish comes right off very easily

Just added another one to this series with one little difference. I did the weights in black polymer. Instead of paint filling the entire weight, I only filled the number.

I've seen some similar style customizations popping up on eBay, but I haven't seen any with just the number filled. I'm sure they're some out there but I just wanted to try it out and I like the effect personally.

Putters look amazing.

Could this finish be done on a studio select 2.0? It is not the Black pvd finish, may be stainless steel not sure.

Would like something similar done to mine

Cobra King F6
Callaway X Hot Pro 15* AxivCore Black
Adams Super S 19* TM JetSpeed 4H
Mizuno JPX 900 Hot Metal 5-GW Project X LZ
Cleveland RTX CB 56* & 60*

Looks like it was blasted with aluminum oxide, same thing can be done to a select

You can definitely do similar things with a studio select. You would only need to sandblast and apply the polymer finish to the weights. You could also change the entire putter to a black polymer finish. Yes the studio select is also stainless steel.

I've done this with studio selects before but I don't have any of the pics handy. Here is studio stainless that I did in black polymer just as an example.

Yes I do. I've done a few jobs for hire, but I ususally just buy used putters, refinish and resell. I would be happy to do it, but in full disclosure it would cost about as much as it would to go to a place like BOS or Putter lounge, who are far better at it than I am. Just being honest. I'm decent, but those guys are great.

Thanks for the compliments. I wish this was the look that Cameron had made their stock look. I just don't think their trademark red dots contrast very well with the black pvd finish.

By the looks of the new scotty select line, it appears that they agree about having the stainless/silver mist as the stock look. I like the look of the new line better than the black pvd finish much better. I can't wait to customise some of those. I wanna do a couple of just custom paint fills and a couple of black polymer finishes on them.
