Shot 89 Today. Big Thanks to GolfWRX and Monte

Recommended Posts

Big thanks to the awesome site and members. Big thanks as well to Monte for his videos on youtube, which allowed me to utilize a very golden nugget and shoot my personal best on a certain course today. This was my 6th round after a 3 year hiatus in which my scores have been from 100-130. For starters I started the day by checking my ego and shelving my forged Taylormade CB/TP's I love so much as they were just not cutting the mustard any longer for my pathetic game. Scrolled the local craigslist and found a $65 set of shovels in the form of Cobra 3400 I/HX 4-GW regular Nippon NS Pro's (best money I have spent). Proceeded to a course I played at least 20 times prior to my hiatus. 6509 yds. 72.0/130 Shot 89 with 2 birdies lipping out and a few wayward tee shots and blow up holes. Managed to not lose a ball and play 100% by the book with 32 putts. Planned on keeping a better detailed account of the round but my buddy was having a rough go of it so was helping find his balls as well. Very pleased and just had that feeling it was gonna be a special day. The course gets very narrow on a good number of holes so course management was a big improvement today. Only regret is not being able to take back the 8 chili dipped wedge shots I hit. Almost forgot 44/45 and opened with 3 straight pars and a few nice 280 yd. drives thanks to a very strong wind all day gusting as much as 35 mph at times.

Feels good, doesn't it. Breaking 90 is a very rewarding milestone. '

Now, if you want to get rid of those TP CB's, give me a shout :)

Thanks guys. It was a great sense of achievement to say the least and very easily could have been much lower. It was bitter sweet because I absolutely love my Rac Cb/TPs but there comes a time when ya gotta say uncle. I honestly thought it would take a bit longer to achieve a score like this but man I just hit those shovels so nicely and came away very mindful of my errant shots which cost me well over 10 strokes. Gonna try and squeeze in another round this week weather permitting. Hopefully groove this new driver and get the chili dipping wedge erraticated for good. Thanks as well Marty, your bump toward the target at address was the nugget I took with me today.

Nice! I had the same issue checking my ego...was playing MP69 and was shooting low 90's high 80's for 6 months....loved the irons!

I switched to JPX 825 pros and I call them shovels too...but i have been shooting in the low 80s and hoping to break 80 again. I'm trying to back up my 76 from 1 1/2 years ago! Still have not backed it up and doubts have crept in that it was just a fluke and will never happen again. But the new shovels have brought back hope...shot 80 and 81 my last rounds...so I'm right there again!

Keep using those shovels and break 90 again! Im trying to break 80 and get to a 9 index with my shovels! Those are my two main goals this year...

Sounds like you have a solid plan and I can tell you there is very subtle difference between a 89 and an 81...a lot of it from what I have noticed is short game 1. Chipping 15 to 20 yards out 2. Course management - know which holes where par or bogey is acceptable avoid OB and trouble areas that can give you the big blow up numbers 3. Sand game 4. In between distances, for me 80 yard shot....

You mentioned chili dipping...yeah you gotta get rid of that...sounds like that's 2 to 3 strokes right there.

Yeah had a good 10 wasted strokes today not to mention the 2 lip outs and 4 very near misses with the flatstick. I have broke 80 twice but has been a long time ago. I'm just excited to be back to my former form this fast and I definitely know what areas to address and how to achieve the ultimate goal. Keep up your good work as well tec333 your breakthrough will happen really soon. I don't see the shovels leaving the bag anytime soon they are the most stupid easy clubs to hit that I have ever owned and I have owned a ton of them.
