I would like to know if anyone has tried one of these rangefinders. What are your opinions? How does the Medalist compare to the 1500 Tournament Edition? If you have a steady hand and good vision, does the 7x magnification make that much of a difference from the 4x magnification.

Since they both have the Pinseeker technology, the only real difference is the magnification and about $100.

I'm not interested in the Slope version because I'd like to use it for competition; I would just like to know if anyone has made any on course comparisons between the Medalist and 1500 Tournament Edition.

Thanks,

Hep

I have this version and will offer a quick review. It is very accurate and surprisingly, it matches the yardages on the cart (GPS) very accurately. The size and pinseeker technology is easy to use. My ONLY complaint with this product is the magnification. If you are 200 yards and over, it makes it a little more difficult to get an accurate reading. You need to have a steady hand. My course has a lot of brush and trees behind the greens which if I am not steady, I end up reading a tree behind it. When I shoot it on the par three's, I might have to get a couple readings before I get the flag.

It's really not as big of deal as it sounds. In the end, you might have to shoot a flag a couple of times, but that's it. I would definately buy it again for the price. I got mine at TGW.com, and used the 15% off coupon. It was only $269.

I tried both and went with the TE. I really didn't think the Medalist was that much smaller when trying the two out together or at least the size of the TE did not bother me. However I did feel that the 7x magnification made a big difference as mentioned in shots over 180 yards or so, it made it much easier to pick the flag up on the first try. Its a great unit and well worth the money IMO. I paid $311 shipped from an ebay seller who a few people here recommended and it included the deluxe carrying case.

Thanks for all the input! I just pulled the trigger on the 1500 Tournament Edition based on dcmidnight's review. It seems to me that there is a big enough difference between the 7x magnification and the 4x magnification to warrant spending the extra money. I just picked one up, new, on Ebay for $305 shipped.

Once again, thanks for the info.
