Taylormade R11 vs R1

Put a good shaft in the R1 and that should fix your problems. The problem is finding that right one. Some good choices include Fuji Tour Spec 6.2, 7.2, Tour AD Di's. Seems like these are the shafts people have alot of success with. Pricey though.

The R1 for me, hands down blew away my R11. The R11 would balloon on me no matter what shaft i used or what setting. The R11S was better, esp. with the TP shaft, but the R1 gave me the same distance, but more consistency. Still want to raise launch a touch and drop some spin, so looking at shafts now... torn between the Matrix RUL and the Speeder 6.2 -- i know different shafts, but equally good results. The matrix seems to get the ball up quicker, and then it sails from there with a ton of roll, while the speeder starts low, and keeps climbing, just short of ballooning, yet still comes down and hits the ground running. Not much difference in dispersion, but now it's a matter of feel. As good as the Speeder felt (smooth and soft), the Matrix feels more stable, and gives a pronounced kick at the bottom.

I'm sure you will find a combination that works for you, may have to play with it a bit... I also noticed that putting the 10G in the heel, and 1G in the toe seemed to kick the spin up a touch

I had the R11 for 2 years and loved it. The screw somehow broke so I sent it back to TMag and they sent me an R1 with my same 'ahina shaft in it and I hated it. I couldnt get the right ball flight at all. it would go really low for about 230 yards then balloon and fall out of the sky. I tried a ton of different settings and just couldnt get it right. I got the Adams Speedline Super LS now. Things a bomber it'll be in the bag for awhile.

What an awful thread for me to read. I literally just bought an R1 and sold my superdeep and r11s. Put all my eggs in the R1 basket... I hope to get it dialed in this weekend. To this point the superdeep has been the champ. I'm pulling for the R1...

What shaft did you get? I would start a bit higher loft, and you should be good to go.

I have the stock 55 gram Phenom. It feels a little whippy... STILL have yet to hit the driver so no clue how it flies.

mweaver84, notice you have a 4 wood, is that cause the 3 wood was too close to the driver distance?
[/quote]

Its actually because I like having the extra wedge and hit my H4 3 iron just as far as a 5 wood. I hit the 4 wood about 250 and driver about 280-290. Don't really see much of need to hit a club 260-270...

Cheers for that, I have that gap issue, driver to close to 3 wood, gap issue sorted out at the bottom end just need to sort out the top end... to the trackman me thinks!

Finally hit the R1 this weekend. After adjusting it I was easily carrying 275. My local range has a hill that drops off at 283 yards (laser) and I was rolling balls past the sign. It is definitely longer than my R11s, even with the stock shaft...

The face of the R1 is hotter than the R11 and R11s. My source is caddy for a TM tour player.

I will be testing my R1 with HoF patriot against my R11 DOT with HoF patriot today. No monitors, just visual and feel (confidence) testing. Hope to get a little more accuracy from the R1.

I just picked up an r1 with 78g v2 shaft, 9* neutral is perfect for my swing 125-130mph. I'm hitting the ball much lower than my old ping with Grafalloy Blue and my misses are flying straight! I put an awful swing on my r1 with what felt like a quick hook...ball flies 295 with a 10 yd hook just missed the fairway...I Love This Club! And like others have said if you hit it flush the fluidity and feel is unexplainable. I've gained an easy 10 yards with the r1 and some or this is helped by the heavier shaft too.
