Newbie from OH/VA

Hey gang,

 

Fairly new golfer here from Lynchburg, Virginia. I grew up in Ohio (Go Bobcats!), and moved down to VA for DPT school. I just graduated and will be taking the boards soon (edit: passed my boards!). I caught the golf bug in June of this past summer, and now I like to play whenever I get the chance. I shoot in the low to mid 90's, but more importantly, I just have a blast getting out there and hitting the ball around the course (I care more about how good the shot feels and how pretty it looks in the air right now than I do regarding where the ball ends up landing exactly or what the score on my card show).

 

My entire bag has gone through a pretty extensive metamorphosis from driver to putter this past summer. My first set was a "play-it-again sports classic" consisting of some decent Dynacraft TWS 1100's with Harrison boron graphite shafts; they got the ball down the course and closer to the pin, but as I've gotten more into golf and have done some more reading and research I've decided I want to try some steel shafts and some GI irons (instead of something that's more of a muscleback). I'm not a TMAG fanboy (I initially liked the idea of Callaway and wanted to like their clubs, but now I just prefer to have whatever helps me play to my best abilities), so my bag now leans toward Taylormade with an R9 SuperTri driver, Rocketballz Stage2 hybrid, Rocketbladez irons, Callaway Forged 56 wedge and Odyssey BackStryke putter.

Feel free to critique my bag (what may be missing, what I'm doing wrong or maybe even right, etc).

 

Right now, for anyone who may be in the Lynchburg area as well, I enjoy playing Poplar Forest, Colonial Hills (basically attached to my neighborhood), and London Downs. Poplar Grove when I have money of course.

 

I recently spent some time in Chesapeake VA and played the Battlefield course, as well as played in a scramble tournament at the Cahoon Plantation course for a public schools fundraiser event. Very nice courses there as well!

 

Anywho, enough rambling, I will probably be a lurker on this site for awhile as I really do not have knowledge or expertise to give, but I do look forward to reading up on what the forums have to offer. So thanks in advance, and my apologies for any dumb questions I may ask!

 

(I've just picked up copies of Ben Hogan's 5 Lessons, Dr. Bob Rotella's Golf is not a Game of Perfect, and Harvey Penick's Little Red Golf Book, so they should keep my attention for AWHILE, haha.)

Thanks, and very nice.. it's going to be tough deciding what to spend my free time doing now, ride or golf? or fish? or hang out with GF? How do you deal with the choices??? haha
