Ocean City, Maryland information

always looking for a new golf destination...

I am always on the lookout for a new golf trip destination. I just received a junk mailing on Ocean City, MD in the mail. Is Ocean City a smaller scale Myrtle beach or more upscale in nature? Can anymone provide some detailed information on these (or others not listed) courses:

Play Rum Pointe on a windy day and you will love it. It's a great test of your abiliy to flight the ball. Throw out the yardages!

While OC is trying to take a page out of the Myrtle playbook, it has a long way to go. Geography will not allow them to ever have the number of courses available at the Grand Strand. However, there are some nice courses in the area. My favorites are Lighthouse Sound and Baywood Greens (actually in Delaware). During the season, (Memorial Day to Labor day), it caters to two groups: the college crowd and the family vacationers. It is not a golf destination per se. I would also caution regarding a trip during the season: everyone double their prices at the minimum. However, it could make a nice golf trip April to May and September to November.

I have lived in the OC area (currently just over the MD/DE line in Fenwick Island) for the past 14 years. It is definitely an up and coming golf destination. While it is true it will never be Myrtle (much smaller) you should absolutely check it out. The busiest package season typically runs in the spring and fall but there are some nice deals in the summer as well. Some courses to play that will give you all you can handle as well as some beautiful scenery are Bayside, Bear Trap Dunes, Glen Riddle, Eagles Landing, Rum Pointe, Lighthouse Sound and Ocean City Golf Club. im looking for a vacation home near ocean city md. dont want to be too far from the beach 20 min max. can anyone suggest towns near oc that a bargain home can be found?

Grew up in MD and spent many of summers in OC. Played at least half those courses you listed when I was younger. The few that I remember most out of that list is Lighthouse Sound, Rum Pointe and Bear Trap Dunes. What I think is so great about it is that there are plentiful amount of good courses within a reasonable driving distance. You could take several trips there and not play the same ones twice. OC also has a decent boardwalk with games and rides. Need to try Thrashers Fries (if they are still around) they are amazing.

Definatley play Lighthouse Sound. It is the nicest in Ocean City. I would also reccomend Rum Pointe. I did not like Bear Trap Dunes too much. Glenn Riddle is nice. It is an old horse track and you can get a nice meal afterwards at Ruth's Chris.

If you don't mind driving about 20-30 miles, go up the ocean to Rehobeth Beach, Delaware and play Baywood Greens. It is definitly worth it.

I'm thinking about going down in September. My wife doesn't golf, but my 11 year old does. Are there any courses that would be a little more "junior golfer" friendly?

We just want to play a round while the wife gets a pampered (massage, manicure, etc.)...

Just got back from the area and I played Bayside, Bay Club, and Bear Trap. They are Carl Freeman courses and they have a deal to play 3 courses for $200. Out of the 3 Bayside was by far my favorite. Its a great Nicklaus course. My second favorite was Bay Club and played the West Course. I stayed on the third hole of the Black Bear course at Bear Trap. They were all nice but we played Bayside first and the other two were not as impressive. The deal for the three courses run thorugh out the year and during the winter months its on $99. I'm definitely planing on going down to play again.
