To you Costa Del Mar fans...

I'm typically a Kaenon guy, but thinking about giving Costa's a shot. Reason is, I've got a $400 gift certificate to Bass Pro and can't find anything else I want. Their golf selection sucks...

 

Thoughts on the following are appreciated:

 

-580g vs 400g lenses. There are lots of reviews online, but nothing I could find that was golf specific.

-green mirror vs blue mirror vs silver mirror lenses. Same as above as far as being golf specific.

I would definitely go with the 580 lenses... Much better quality. The difference between green and blue is personal preference. I play with both and it doesn't seem to mater to me. Blue will be darker better in really bright sunlight. The green brightens things up a tremendous amount... I like blue when its sunny and green when its over cast... Hope this helps

I have several pairs of Costa Del Mar sunglasses, and have worn them for years. I am a fisherman. This is entirely my opinion.

Without a doubt, go with the 580's, and preferably glass. They have many styles/sizes to choose from. Choose a pair with frames that fit the shape of your head and best blocks out sunlight from getting in all around.

All my Costa's are 580g. As far as lens color, I prefer either the green mirror/copper and amber base, or silver mirror/copper base. These are "lighter" lens colors and bring out contrast, definition, enhancement, and cuts glare. I also have the blue mirror/grey base and normal grey base. These are "darker" lenses, and will work the same but offer a darker view. As you try different pairs on, go outside and experience your vision with them on. Notice the trees, leaves, cars, clouds, sky, colors, etc.... I also can see a yellow golf ball from a mile away with them on.

I have broken a few frames, and I have cracked a few lenses. I have had them all replaced at minimal charge.

Definitely check out the CDM website for more information.

Also look at Smith Optics. Don't remember if BPS carries them though.

Everyone is different. Hope this was helpful. This is my opinion.

When you say green and blue mirror, you're just referring to the color of the coating, not the base lens, right? A green tinted lens would be about the worst possible choice for golf.

I have been using the 580p copper lens for the last month. It really makes reds and greens pop, and works in a wide variety of lighting conditions. It's the only costa lens I have experience with, but I can definitely recommend it as good for golf.

Correct. Green mirrior is copper/amber and blue mirror is gray base ( I think, it's not pulling up on my iPad).
