Detroit/Ann Arbor - Looking for a nice track

I'll be driving on 94 from Chicago to Detroit next week for work. I'm looking to stop on my way to play a round at a very nice course...either in Ann Arbor or around Detroit. Looking for suggestions. Price doesn't really matter. Pristine conditions and beautiful tree lines are what I'm looking for. So far the best I've found I think is Shepherd's Hollow....

Shepherd's hollow is nice. You should check out the Orchards as well.

if you are going to be in Ann Arbor Monday morning I would have you come join me at U of M course basically at the big house. Harbor shores I love in benton Harbor. I have stopped there a few times to play. There is a track in jackson that is suppose to be amazing (The grand golf Club) I have not played it but ment to before I moved.

Jackson is a stones throw away and the Grande is well worth the short drive from A2.

Shepards Hollow is unquestionably a superior course over the Grande, but you pay every penny for it. Grande is great track at half the cost. If $$ is no option and you're talking Detroit area dig up some old threads in the Midwest Region Courses on this site. Literally dozens of good tracks.

One thing your missing here is Shepards is not on your route. It is quite out of the way if you're driving in from Chicago.

It's a little out of the way. I am staying at Motor City (dtown Detroit) so I can drive a little more north on my way to Shepherds then drive the 45 miles to the hotel after the round. Thanks for the heads up though.

However The Grande looks pretty nice!

If you are stopping on the way, The Medalist in Marshall is also a choice, right off the 69/94 interchange.

I would not include Bedford or Angels Crossing on that list because of conditioning.

Yarrow is nice, but Grande is slightly better and closer to highway

Really? That's too bad. I haven't played either in a few years, but both are amazing layouts. Sad to hear they are in bad shape.

What's wrong with Angels Crossing? I was thinking of going there in a couple of weeks.

Angels Crossing is a good layout, but the conditioning since the city of Vicksburg took over has been sub par, particularly the greens which have been very slow and hairy. I have played it once each of the last three years and same story.I won't go back to Angel's Crossing anymore because the greens are too big for the condition the greens are in. However, I will say that I have played it each time in middle of summer when it is warm. Maybe fall conditions would be better.

I like Bedford - it is a decent course, but not one that I would put into the category with the others because the greens and conditioning are not as nice as the other GLV courses which is not as nice as Yarrow, Medalist, or Grande.

I'd even throw Leslie park in there in Ann Arbor. It was for top muni in the country a few years back.
