DIY - ProSENDR Training Aid for $40

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

The ProSENDR Training aid from David Woods and Sean Foley looks like a training aid, but $170 is ridiculous.

After looking at some photos, it seems pretty easy to make this. Would like to brainstorm with everyone here to optimize how to make this the best possible way.

After spending 3 minutes searching for materials, this is the current shopping list:

Materials: (product photos attached)

Wrist strap - $9.99

Shin Guards - $4.60

Dog Toy Ball - $9.42

Velcro Strips - $7.80

Gorilla Glue - $6.99

Total - $38.80 (+ tax)

The Build:

1. Ball - Glue a velcro piece to the dog toy ball and glue the other velcro piece to the wrist strap.

2. Wrist Cradle - Use a heat gun or a pot of boiling water to heat up shin guard and bend to 51 degrees. Sean Foley explains on the Foreplay podcast that this is set to 51 degrees (link to clip here) then glue this to the wrist strap.

This seems like a reasonable way to make this and with having 2 shin guards, you have 2 chances to make it in case you really screw it up 👍

Happy to build this and make a video of the process if anyone else is interested, but before doing so, are there any suggestions or ideas to consider before going ahead with this build?

Cheers

Where is your finished product?

Yes sir, haven't made it yet. Was looking for any feedback and/or suggestions before going ahead with making it just in case someone has a better idea or something to improve it.

Very well thought out .

The goal with this device is to develop the TACTILE  feel of maintaining right wrist extension so this feel can be translated to swings WITHOUT any swing aid .Having a rigid backing like the Prosendror or like rigid shin guards might be more  of an artificial feel and more difficult to translate to swings without the aid .

That is why I liked  the suggestion of using thick folded aluminum foil posted by another Golfwrxer  . The aluminum foil can be easily molded into the desired angle  and moves with the wrists without a rigid feeling.

I am just wondering if there is product  similar to shin guards , but less rigid.

A few years ago I bought a soft spiky ball with a similar diameter at the local dollar store . It feels very comfortable because it is soft and the spikes make it easier to hold .

Agreed 100% with the wrists not wanting to be held by the device to promote artificial feel, David Woods and Sean Foley even mentioned this saying that they disliked other devices out there that click you into place whereas the ProSENDR forces you to put your wrist there and not be held back by a device. But you're right on the other way, making it so you don't just push up against it and "cheat" that feel by the device locking you there.

Thick folded aluminum foil seems like it would get the job done but perhaps something a little more durable would be more practical?

End of the day, a rigid shin guard forcing you to extend your wrist might not be 100% perfect, but it would still be very beneficial in comparison to a device that holds your wrist back.

Maybe a 2mm silicone or rubber mat might work as it's durable and can hold it's shape, but also you can push back onto it and would flex, helping you train to that sweet spot better.

i used some 3m spray adhesive to affix the wrist band to the plastic and it worked great. I can say I remolded the part the hand hits a few times just heating it up again with a

blowdryer and it is really great. btw my 2 things i bought will get you 2 units and i fitted one for my son. I have tinkered with this thing most all of yesterday and found myself

adjusting my swing to really "feel" this move.

I have struggled for years with an open face at the top (freddie couples) and this little tool has really changed my backswing feeling back to square and it has been amazing so far.

I am going to use this all winter to get it ingrained and should reap the ball striking rewards next season. I was a plus handicap growing up and in recent years, aging, and not being able

to square the club coming back due to strength, flexiblity and loss of speed. now I feel more powerful and am hitting more pentrating balls with less effort to square the clubface at impact.

still need to ingrain the habbit but this thing will work for folks with cupped wrists and i think alot of slicers out there that has a similar weak position at the top.

frank looks pretty good, here is my take on this.

and i will say i heated the shin guards using a blow dryer then molded it on my wrist in the position i wanted it in and then use the velcro wrist band to tighten.

i can feel the cut to get my hand into and am now swinging and hitting it like Rory. haha

i bought 2 things on amazon and got a really good unit. i included the pictures but the shin guards get firm and i made sure i really contoured it on my wrist so it stayed in place

i am getting the club into the slot and paid 20 bucks!!!

i feel like it is making me swing a little flatter and it is totally changing my move to the ball. I built yesterday and pounded a couple of hundred balls last night.

litterally took 10 minutes to do. i didnt connect the velcro strap to the shin guard really no need to other than you need to rest your wrist on a table or something to

attach. maybe ill play with some kind of glue or something to permanently attach strap. but i only have used it in my sim room so no big deal.

hope this works, dont need any padding on the guard it doesnt cause any discomfort.

You are a freaking genius. Is there any easy reference point of where exactly your wrist should be to get the molding correct? Haha

I basically watched the prosendr videos and checked out my club postion then formed the shin guard on in the wrist postion. i heated with blow dryer molded to wrist, then

ran my arm under cold water to speed the molding process. i then spray glued the strap onto the unit. its light and feels great. I have been using it everyday and already its making

a difference.

Sculptured the shape using clay. Got to seal it after.

1L of silicone for the mould.

20231013_161829.jpg.1595250cc7f0c0ab91238ac7135f0811.jpg

150ml of resin

20231015_003718.jpg.1464b752672a21e8d9266aac4f612ea3.jpg

Plus the wrist band, Velcro etc.

Neoprene lining with adhesive backing

The mould was about $40

Once you have the mould, each one you make cost $15.

I did consider 3d printing it but didn't have a 3d printer also not sure if would be as solid as resin.

Give is a nice sanding to smooth the edges. Still waiting on the neoprene lining.

Now with the Neoprene lining.

Was just curious to try out the moulding process. Why not this as a project 🙂

The amount of time you put into making this will cost you more than just buying it and moving on with your day.

Especially when you factor in that this version will likely look worse making you less likely to use it and eventually just lead to you relegating this to the junk golf bin.

Buy once, cry once.

Well if you've got time and curiosity why not. Don't look pretty but it works exactly the same as the real thing. Tested it a real one a couple days ago. I've made 4 since i posted. Just pour 230 ml of resin 2 days curing time and sand.

Now i've got one in the bag, in my sim room, living room and spare 🙂

I was wondering what forum one might post about diy tools. I did a golf forever diy with a pvc pipe, bands and a drill. This is great. I'll have to give it a try.
